Hair Accessories

I’m back! Wow, that is the longest blogging break I have ever taken. I wish I could say I spent the time crafting or organizing my house like I planned…but to be honest I was just lazy. Hubby had some time off so we spent most days indoors playing games and building forts. It was a nice little break.
Does anyone feel like they can’t sit still and watch a movie? I’m that way..I need to be doing something. So lately I’ve been making these..

I started off by making some for my nieces then remembered how much I loved making hair accessories over the summer. I’ve been thinking about jumping on the etsy bandwagon and opening a shop, I guess I’ll see how many cute things I can whip up in the next few weeks and consider it a little more.

On another note, I’m ready to put all of these Christmas decorations away and start scrubbing every inch of this house. Most importantly, I’m ready to stop eating baked goods and get back to my workout routine. Cliche, I know. But it’s true the beginning of the year always puts me in the mood to start all over. Another goal of mine is to set more time aside for blogging and crafting. I really love sharing my projects and checking out everyone’s blogs! Have a great New Year’s everyone!

Merry Christmas!!

Happy Holidays!!

I’ve been taking a little break from blogging to spend time with my family, finish up last minute handmade gifts, and do some baking. Thank you so much for all of your support these past few months. I never thought when I started this blog that I would have nearly 200 followers within a few months..you’re all great! Thank you for all the comments and emails, they mean so much.

I’ll be back Monday with some cute girl accessories I’ve been making, and then I’m going to start focusing on Valentine’s Day crafts!

I wish you all a Merry Christmas and hope you have a great weekend with your loved ones.

Peppermint Bark

My new favorite holiday treat just might be peppermint bark! Jay seen the Ghiradelli squares at the store and wanted some. It seemed so easy to make that I thought we’d try it out at home first and if I failed miserably I’d go back and buy him a package. It’s so easy to make, I’m actually making more next week.
All I used was Ghiradelli white chocolate chips, semi-sweet chocolate chips, and a package of candy canes
I melted the semi-sweet chocolate chips in the microwave and poured it on a baking sheet lined with wax paper.
Let it cool for at least an hour
Crush candy canes in a zip lock bag
Then melt and pour the white chocolate chips and sprinkle candy canes on top
Let it harden then break into pieces..super easy!
We packaged it up and gave some away as gifts to Jay’s teacher and a neighbor.

Rudolph Candy Canes

Want to know what Jay will be handing out to his classmates on Friday?
***Edit: I kept looking at these and wondering why they looked so funny..umm duhh the antlers are upside down!!! Don’t worry, I fixed them last night…haha did anyone else catch that?
These adorable Rudolph Candy Canes!
I didn’t want him to give out just another bag of candy, I wanted to make something with him that everyone would like. Then I remembered making these a few years ago and thought they’d make a perfect treat!
With a small amount of low temp hot glue I added the nose and eyes.
Twist the pipe cleaner around the candy cane tight enough so that it’ll stay in place
Then bend each “antler” in a zig zag pattern and trim any excess
And that’s it! I plan on adding some ribbon and a name tag.
Aren’t they cute? Are your kids making anything for their friends? I’d love to hear some ideas!

Monogrammed Ornaments

In between studying for finals and writing papers I made a quick trip to Michaels and I found these plain porcelain ornaments. I knew I had to get them. When I came home I decided to monogram them with vinyl using my handy dandy cricut machine.
I used the Wall Decor and More cartridge, which has a ton of features-the monogram letters being my favorite!
I love how they turned out! I may have to go back and get some more.
So tell me, have you made any ornaments this year? I’d love to hear your ideas, especially any that I can make with my kids.

Another Christmas Gift Idea!

As much as I loved how easy the glitter foam coasters were to make, I knew I wanted to try making something a little more sturdier.
I love all the coaster gifts floating around blogland so I decided to head out to Lowes and found these..for 16 cents each!!
I decided to use felt instead of cork, only because I already had a bunch of felt and didn’t want to run out for more cork.
Then flipped them over and Mod Podge scrapbook paper onto them. The tiles are about 4 1/4 inches so I cut my paper into 4×4 sheets. When they were completely dry I sprayed a clear sealant on them and let them dry overnight.
I’m obsessed with these two prints..I’m making some canvas wall decor for my master bath with them.
Wouldn’t these make a great Christmas gift?

Reese’s Peanut Butter Cookies

First of all, Thank You for all the wonderful comments. I’m always so excited to share my crafts with everyone and reading all of your comments puts a smile on my face :)
Do you know what I’m looking forward to? In about 9 days I’ll be done with school for the semester…and that means more crafting! Yay!
With everything going on, I still haven’t finished my Christmas decor around the house, let alone had much time to craft. But we have managed to put our lights up outside and finish the tree.
Oh and of course, I have to find the time to do some baking every once in awhile. Today I made these Reese’s Peanut Butter cookies and they were delicious!

I cheated and used a package of pb cookie mix instead of making everything from scratch.

Follow the package directions, bake for 8-11 mins
While they’re in the oven cut up some Reese’s Peanut Butter cups.

Remove the cookies from the oven and immediately press the pb cups on top, allow to cool.

Then enjoy! nom nom nom, these are soooo good!
p.s. I’m totally loving Reese’s right now, I made some Reese’s brownies last week and now these. Hmm what else could I put them in!?!

Christmas Candy Jar!!

Remember my Halloween Candy Jar? Well, our home needed a Christmas candy jar too!
I had a hard time deciding on a color comb..some ideas were red/green, white/blue, silver/red (I think I’m going to make another using this combo), and red/gold. Eventually I decided on red/white to put peppermints in but am thinking about making a few more using different colors to give as gifts.
This is what I used plus E6000. Everything but the spray paint is from Michaels. You don’t have to use spray paint, I was just being lazy and didn’t want to hand paint the whole thing :)
Once the paint is dried, glue the glass vase onto the bottom of the terra cotta pot.
I don’t have a picture but I glue the “knob” onto the saucer using E6000, you can even use hot glue or gorilla glue if you don’t have E6000 on hand.
Then fill the jar and add some ribbon..I switched my ribbon out for this snowflake one.
And that’s it! A fun project that your kids will love.
