Champions for Kids: Couponing for Good

A couple of weeks ago I shared my participation in this month’s Champions for Kids SIMPLE service project. The theme for March was couponing for good. My goal was to purchase some basic necessities, canned food, and a couple of fun items with a $25 budget. By using coupons found in All You magazine and my local newspaper I was able to save on about half the items I purchased.

The best deal I scored was on the shampoo. My local newspaper had coupons for them the weekend before I went shopping. You can view my entire shopping trip on Google +. The toothbrushes were also a great deal, they were $1 for a two pack.

I used coupons on the soup and vegetables. Most of the other items were around $1. I usually stock up on canned food to donate around the holidays. Most are about half the price a couple of weeks before Thanksgiving.

My kids love to color and read so I figured adding books and coloring books to our kit would be great for another child to enjoy. The great thing about art supplies is that you can usually find them at a low price. The Easter books were very inexpensive and found in the Easter aisle of Walmart.

I chose to donate my kit to Valley Crisis center again. I told you all about this wonderful organization during my last Champions for Kids project. They serve battered women and children in my county by providing them with shelter, counseling, educational and financial resources, and more. My kids helped me shop and put together the kit but I donated it alone this time. The people there are so nice and always make me feel really good about my donation.

Have you participated in a Champions for Kids SIMPLE Service project? If you do please share your project on the Champions for Kids website so that they can count YOU as one of the 20 million.
