Washi Tape Coasters

Let’s talk about Washi tape. Do you use it? Are you one of those people that ran to Target the second you heard it was available there? I’ll admit, I am one of those people! I’ve been eying it online since last Fall but couldn’t think of anything to do with it. Now I have all sorts of washi tape crafts planned. I’ll start off by sharing with you my new washi tape coasters. They were inspired by this pinterest find and this adorable washi tape bunny from My Sister’s Suitcase.
Like I said, I ran to Target a few weeks ago. Ok, I didn’t run but I strapped the kids into their car seats as fast as I could and headed to Target hoping there would be some washi tape left. We raced down to the office supply aisle only to find out my Target didn’t have it in stock yet. *tear*. There I was feeling silly that I drove all the way to Target during what should have been nap time for a craft product! I considered driving to Super Target in the next town over but decided I would chalk that quest up as a fail and check back in a few days. Luckily I go to Target more often than I care to admit and found it at my next visit. I even found some at Michael’s yesterday! I think it’s safe to say I have a slight addiction to washi tape right now.

In case you’re wondering, this is what you’re looking for at Michael’s. I found mine near the registers.
These were so incredibly easy to make. They took me maybe 20 minutes. I made them out of the same tiles I used in the last diy coaster tutorial I shared. They’re very inexpensive (16 cents a piece at Lowes) and make a great gift. Think Mother’s Day gift idea!
To make them I started on the top left corner so that my stripes would be diagonal. I wrapped the tape a little over the bottom then repeated until the entire tile was finished. I didn’t worry about a pattern and made them all a little different. I then finished them with a coat of Mod Podge. If you’re worryed about them sticking together you can use a varnish instead. I’ve never had a problem with the Mod Podge though. Once that dried I glued felt onto the bottom of each coaster.

I love how colorful they are. They’re my favorite coasters yet!

What’s are some of your favorite washi tape crafts?

Game Day Challenge #OdwallaCFK

Hi friends! How was your Easter? We had a wonderful day celebrating with family. We started off our day by going to church followed by two different egg hunts and ended it with a family bike ride. It was the perfect day and our best Easter yet!

Today I’d like to tell you that I’m continuing to work with Champions for Kids for the month of April and I couldn’t be more excited about this months’ theme. April’s SIMPLE service project is Odwalla Game Day Challenge. Exercise is so important to our family. My husband and I both come from families with a history of heart disease and diabetes. As much as we love creating desserts around here, it’s important to teach our children the importance of exercise and balance. We emphasize living an active lifestyle and exercise regularly as a family. We are fortunate enough to have the resources to have our children involved in organized sports and other activities that help keep them active. But with a high poverty rate in our county, I know this isn’t the case for many children in my area.

 Did You Know?

•    1 out of 3 children and teens in the US are overweight, which puts them at risk of developing serious health problems, including diabetes, heart disease and asthma.

•    Only 3.8 percent of elementary schools, 7.9 percent of middle schools and 2.1 percent of high schools provide daily physical exercise for their students.

•    Children who play sports have better eating habits and nutrient intake than those who do not, and this combination of physical exercise and balanced diet contributes to improved health and academic achievement. Odwalla believes in Nourishing The Body Whole® so that children can have healthy nutrition and lead strong lives!

Last week the kids and I went to Walmart to look for outdoor equipment to donate to our local Boys & Girls club. My little helper had fun picking things out. I planned on buying a football and soccer ball but she really wanted to get this bowling set. You can see more pictures from our trip on Google +.

We picked up a few healthy drinks and snacks as well. I haven’t tried the Odwalla drinks but we’re going back to get a few for our family baseball game this week.
My daughter insisted on pushing the cart by herself. This pictures make me laugh, the cart is bigger than she is. She is definitely an independent little girl!
Here are the items we purchased. I’m contacting friends and family and asking if they have any gently used sports equipment to donate. My son has a couple pair of cleats he’s outgrown so we’ll be adding those to our donation bag.
You can get involved in this SIMPLE service project by asking friends, family, and neighbors to gather new or gently used sports equipment. Find a local organization like a Boys  & Girls club, shelter, school, or gym to donate the items to. Then fill out the SIMPLE service reporting form so Champions for Kids can count YOU as ONE of the 20 million they’re seeking to mobilize by 2020.
