Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and I couldn’t be more excited about the holiday of LOVE. My daughter isn’t in preschool yet but she is also excited about Valentine’s Day. She’s keeps asking when we can go pick out valentine cards. Her best friend moved away this past Fall so she’s looking to sending her some sweet snail mail in the next few weeks. We have some local friends to hand out cards to and I’ve been thinking of cute and easy Valentine’s Day ideas like these paper valentine containers filled with treats.
This past weekend I had the opportunity to attend the Craft & Hobby Association (CHA) trade show. It was such a wonderful experience, filled with mounds of inspiration. It was my first time at the show and I was pleasantly surprised by all the paper products. It was all too much to take in but I took a million pictures for inspiration. I’ve shared a few on instagram but will share them here soon.
I saw these paper treat containers in Paper Crafts magazine last year and they called them “paper sour cream containers.” I’m still new to the paper crafting world but I love how easy these are to make. The best part is you don’t need a fancy die cutting machine to make them!
Supplies:
scrapbook paper
glue
sewing machine {optional}
embellishments {twine, stamps, stickers, etc.}
To make the paper treat containers cut your paper to 4 x 6 inches.
Create a paper tube roll by gluing the ends together like so..
Once the glue is dried take one end and glue it close (see above picture). I used a sewing machine to close the ends but glue works great too. Then fill with treats, toys, or love notes inside and close the other in in the opposite direction. This way one end is vertical and one end is horizontal. Does that make sense?
Then embellish to your hearts desire! I added washi tape from Michaels and bakers twine from The Twinery. The Happy Valentine’s Day is a dollar stamp from Michaels as well then I used a circle punch to cut it out. The glitter hearts are from Target ($1 stickers) and I adore the small clothespins to hold the tag in place.
So tell me..are you a fan of Valentine’s Day?
Those containers are great! They remind me of the frozen juice pops they used to have when I was in Middle school. I love the washi tape on the ends.
Big fan of Valentine’s Day, even before I had someone special to share it with. What’s not to love about a day filled with fun cards, candy and pink!?! My birthday is in February so when all things pink, white and red show up the stores I know my special day is right around the corner. I love these ” paper sour cream containers” I’ve seen them once or twice in the last couple of months, but I love the idea of using them for Valentine’s Day gifts.
Those are so cute Crystal! I remeber gettin sour cream in containers like that!
Funny thing is I don’t remember ever seeing sour cream containers like that. I actually googled it after I read it in a magazine lol. Thanks for stopping by, Bonnie! :)
