DIY mercury glass Halloween mason jar craft.Â
Mason jar crafts are my absolutel favorite! I’m pretty sure we have over 100 mason jars laying around the house that have already been decorated with or are stored for future projects. It drives my husband crazy with how many jars we have, but one can never have too many mason jars. Am I right? I mean you have to have every size and shape readily available, especially as a blogger. One of my favorite ways to use mason jars is to fill them with lights or flameless candles to turn into lanterns. Halloween is the perfect time to display spooky mason jars on a porch or walkway.
Supplies:
Cricut Explore
Green mason jars
Krylon looking glass mirror spray paint
flameless tea light or rice lights
vinyl
spray bottle
Step one: lightly spray the mason jar with mirror spray paint. I only used one coat but you can add as many coats as you’d like. I wanted the lights to show through the jar so one coat was perfect for this project.
Step two: after a few minutes lightly spray your jar with water. The water will create spots on the mirror paint to make it appear like Mercury glass.
Step three: after your paint is completely dry apply vinyl to the jar. I recommend skipping the transfer paper for this project. On my first attempt I removed a good amount of paint by using transfer paper.
Step four: use rice lights or a flameles tea light and you’re done!
The lights I used make the jar appear blue in the picture. Here you can see the green without the lights on.
I can’t wait to light up my walkway with these cuties on Halloween! I’m also working on a Halloween party for the kids and I can’t wait to show you! The theme is black and white with moss and creepy spiders like you see in the picture. Eeeek! I love this time of the year, so many fun projects and activities to do with the kids. I’ll have a few more Cricut projects to share too!
This project was created as part of the of the Cricut Design Space blogger program. Every month we submit our projects in the Design Space contest where 10 finalist are chosen and then you get to pick the winner! Want in on the fun? Make sure you check out the I Made It contest where one of you can win some amazing prizes including gift cards, Cricut products, and a trip to the Cricut headquarters in Utah to create your own Make It Now line!
Disclosure: I received a Cricut Explore machine in exchange for sharing creative ideas with my readers. I absolutely love their new machine and highly recommend it!
That looks so cute and totally doable!
Love how the lanterns turn out! They are adorable!! Love it!!
Super cute! Did you spray paint the inside or outside of the jar?
Hi Jennifer, so I only sprayed the outside of the green Ball jars. After a few minutes I sprayed the jars with water, which creates the spot/mercury glass effect. Hope that helps!
Great idea!
This looks so cool! Thanks for sharing! Pinning!
