Dutch Apple Pie Recipe – made with Granny Smith and MacIntosh apples.
The beauty of the holiday season is that it brings people together. Whether it’s a holiday work party or gathering with family who live far away. We cherish these precious weeks as we spread holiday cheer and enjoy this time with our loved ones. Of course we can’t forget an essential part of the holidays – the food! This is the time when we feast, make old family recipes, or find new ones on Pinterest. Food plays an important part of family gatherings, especially in our family. On Thanksgiving alone we had a big family breakfast and two Thanksgiving meals with both sides of the family. And that’s only the beginning of the season of holiday feasts! We still have holiday parties with friends and co-workers, as well as Christmas and New Year’s Eve. I’m not big in the cooking department, I’ll leave that up to my mother and mother-in-law, but I do love contributing a dessert recipe. Of course baking always brings back fond memories from my childhood, which in turn encourages me to create memories in the kitchen with my little ones. Recently they helped make this Dutch Apple Pie served with vanilla bean ice cream.
Baking with little ones means a mess is almost impossible to avoid. I’ve learned to embrace the mess and focus on creating memories instead of trying to immediately clean up every spilled ingredient. To help with clean up I use Glad Press N’ Seal when rolling out dough. We make a lot of pies and cookies during the holidays, Glad® Press N’ Seal is a lifesaver for us. We use it to wrap food for storage, for chilling dough, and for rolling out pie dough. I simply press the wrap to the table and get to rollin’.
My kids love rolling out dough and this is where things get messy. Sure we still have some spilled flour around the edges but using the Glad® Press N’ Seal makes clean up a breeze. When we’re done I simply peel it off and voila, the mess is gone. During this busy time of the year I’ll take every bit of help to make things easier in the kitchen.
As I was saying, the kids recently helped make this apple pie. They helped wash while I peeled the apples. Then they mixed in the ingredients and helped roll out of the dough. We used 5 granny smith apples and 4 Macintosh apples in our pie. It was the perfect balance of sweet and tart. The crust is a cinnamon and sugar layer that reminds me of apple crisp. We like to serve our pie a la mode with french vanilla or vanilla bean ice cream.

Did you know Glad Press N’ Seal has many uses outside of the kitchen? I like to use it when the kids paint or work with messy craft supplies. I’ve even used it to make cards as a substitute for vellum. Here’s a quick kids Christmas card idea my daughter and I made.
Supplies:
blank card
green cardstock
Glad Press N’ Seal
confetti
ribbon
glue
Press N’ Seal can be cut into any shape or size, even in your manual die cutting machine. Here we cut a simple triangle to resemble a tree. My daughter arranged confetti stars on the cardstock then pressed the wrap on top. To give the edges a finished look she glued ribbon around the tree. You can also add a ticker or stamp Merry Christmas underneath. That’s it! Simple, quick, and easy!
My mouth is watering!! That looks so delish! I love the idea for less clean-up work, I’ve never tried that!
This apple pie looks INCREDIBLE. I especially am loving the height of it! Definitely craving a slice to devour now.. pinned!
