There’s an antique store a few towns away that I could spend days wandering around. The whole store is set up in sections for each seller. I love going during the holidays when the sellers create beautiful displays with crafts, decor and their antiques. My husband dreads visiting the store every time I suggest making a trip there. Unlike me, he is NOT a fan of antiques or anything vintage. Crazy, right? Don’t let him get started on yard sales..he absolute loathes them! He’s always asking what I’m going to do with things I bring home that have definitely seen better days. In his defense I do tend to bring home things with plans to make them over, but often leave them in the garage for ages. However, when I spotted this vintage ladder last fall I knew it had to be part of our home.
I found the ladder in October and instantly knew that it would be perfect for Christmas time. I wanted to display it on the porch with poinsettias. And it was perfect! The old peeling red paint worked well for christmas time, but here’s the thing….red is one of my least favorite colors! I don’t own anything red unless it’s Christmas decor. I prefer neutral tones or teal for pops of color. So while this ladder was perfect back in December, I kind of didn’t care for it during the rest of the year. Recently I decided it was time to paint the ladder to something that fit my color style. Here’s where my favorite chalky finish paint came into play. I knew I wanted to preserve some of the vintage charm the ladder had so I didn’t sand it at all. I used only one coat of Americana chalky finish paint in Escape.
The before and painting process pictures. When my husband saw that red ladder he thought I was crazy for wanting it.
I just love all the little imperfections. The paint really helped give it a new life but it still has an old vintage feel with the scratches and dings.
As I’ve mentioned a million times before, I absolutely love the Americana Chalky Finish paint line. It goes on smooth and usually only requires 1-2 coats. The best part is you don’t need to sand your projects beforehand.
For now I’m using the ladder to display succulents and these adorable pink cactus. Is anyone else in love with these plants? They’re perfect for our California drought and seem to be surviving my black thumb. :)
Isn’t that funny……I have the same ladder, same color, everything. My hubby found it on the side of the road years ago. Love the color you painted it.
It’s so nice! I love the pretty blue color! Great job! :)
