As Spring approaches I find myself adding a lot of blues and mossy greens to our home décor. I recently shared our Spring inspired mantle with blue vases that I’m absolutely in love with. I’ve been slowing adding things to fill up the space like this new DIY watercolor lucite ampersand. It fits perfectly with my collection of blue bottles and vases. The best part about it is that it’s really easy to make! You see, it’s not actually watercolor. I found this watercolor brush stroke scrapbook paper at Michaels and knew it would be a perfect fit for our mantel. This month’s Michaels Makers challenge was to create personalized home décor from their new Alphabet Soup line and this Lucite ampersand immediately caught my eye.
The new Alphabet Soup by Make Market line features a wide collection of surfaces like chalkboard, galvanized boards, letters, frames, and more. You can find everything from an eclectic to rustic styles, natural and finished woods. It also features metals, resin and patterned styles. I was drawn to the Lucite letters and though they would great for personalizing with scrapbook paper.
Supplies:
Lucite ampersand
Watercolor brush strokes paper
Mod podge
x-acto knife
Step one: brush a thin layer of mod podge glue to the back of the Lucite ampersand. Press the ampersand down on the scrapbook paper (design side facing up). Place a book or a heavy object to remove any air bubbles. Allow glue to dry for a few hours
Step two: use an x-acto knife to cut excess paper around the ampersand. Another method is to trace and cut the paper before gluing, and then it’s a matter of lining up the precut paper onto your ampersand. Whatever you find is easiest for you.
