As the days get shorter and the leaves begin to turn beautiful shades orange, yellow, red and brown, I’ve been reflecting on how quickly this year has gone by. Fall is my favorite season and Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. It also happens to be my oldest son’s birthday. He is turning 13 this year. It’s a little hard to believe how quickly 13 years have gone by. It makes me want to savor this precious time with my younger two even more. Before I know it they will be turning 13 and the thought of them growing up so quickly makes me a little sad. Enjoying little moments like cuddling on the couch or reading stories at bedtime have become even more precious to me. Making memories in the kitchen are also moments I cherish with the kids. Recently, we partnered Kellogg’s Rice Krispies to create these Frankenstein Rice Krispies Treats and we had a wonderful time making them together.
I remember making Rice Krispies® treats with my mom as a child and making these simple, delicious treats with my children are a great way to recreate my childhood memories. With Halloween right around the corner these Frankenstein Rice Krispies® treats are perfect for family movie night while we watch Hocus Pocus and It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.
How to make Frankenstein Rice Krispies Treats
Step one: grease 9×13 baking pan. Tip: cut a piece of parchment paper to fit inside the bottom of the pan then grease the parchment paper. This makes it easier to remove the Rice Krispies® treats to prepare for slicing into squares.
Step two: melt 3 tablespoons of butter in the microwave for 45 seconds.
Step three: stir in 1 (10-ounce) bag of miniature marshmallows; evenly coat with melted butter. Heat in microwave for 1 ½ minutes or until marshmallows are melted.
Step four: add green food coloring to melted marshmallows until you get desired shade of green.
Step five: Mix 5 cups of Kellogg’s® Rice Krispies® cereal with your melted marshmallows; stir quickly. Press mixture into your prepared pan; let is set for at least 30 minutes.
Step six: remove from pan and cut into squares.
Step seven: melt your chocolate wafers according to package directions. Dip the top of each square into your chocolate to create Frankenstein’s hair.
Step eight: add edible eyes using leftover chocolate. Add a mouth with piping frosting or the melted chocolate placed inside a piping bag. Let chocolate set before eating.

My kids loved making their Frankenstein treats! Over the weekend we cuddled up in our Halloween pajamas, threw on a movie and enjoyed our monster treats. We also plan to make these for our annual Halloween party in a few weeks!
