DIY Watercolor Bookmarks

I’m hardcore crushing on all things watercolor right now. I’ve been playing with watercolors nonstop the last few weeks, thinking of anything and everything to used them on. These watercolor bookmarks are great as teacher gifts or for a fellow bookworm.

Supplies:

watercolor paints

brush

watercolor paper

Lifestyle Crafts Pocket Die

Watercolor Crafts - bookmarks

To make the ombre bookmarks I created a “wash” along the paper then ran horizontal brush strokes along the paper. It’s a little difficult to see the color in pictures but the ombre bookmarks are pink, orange, and yellow and blue, turquoise, and mint. The tie-dye bookmark, as my daughter called it, was made by dabbing the brush with various colors onto the paper and letting the colors run together. I love this marbled look with the bright colors like pink, purple, turquoise, and yellow.

Lifestyle Crafts - watercolor bookmark

Once the watercolors were dry I used my pocket die to cut out the bookmarks.

I then tied bakers twine through the top and placed them in the sleeves. The pocket die comes with the bookmark die, the sleeve with optional die cut front, and several tags that you can attach. Once I glued the pocket together I added gold glitter tape and bakers twine bows to the front.

These are great for gifting with books or you could slip a Barnes & Noble gift card inside with a note behind the bookmark. I plan to make a few more of these for Mother’s Day to give some of my fellow bookworm friends.

Coconut Tangerine Sugar Scrub

Nourish dry skin with this tropical coconut tangerine sugar. Printable chalkboard tags included below.

Coconut Tangerine Sugar ScrubWhile perusing the aisles of Whole Foods a few weeks ago I came across a bottle of tangerine essential oil. I can spend hours in whole foods, especially in their beauty/health section. I enjoy smelling the essential oil tester bottles and trying to create combinations in my head. The tangerine scent immediately reminded me of summertime. I knew that mixing it with coconut oil to create a sugar scrub would smell delectable. This scrub reminds me of the tropical warmths and scents, it makes me crave sunshine and a fruit smoothie.

My mother and father-in-law are having a pool built starting this week in hopes that it will be complete by mid May. By then we’ll more than likely be in the mid 90s here. Did I mention we purchased our home on the same street as them? Brilliant thinking on our part. :) Ahhh …I’m pretty sure we’ll be living poolside all summer trying to beat the heat. It’s not even April yet and I’m already thinking of summertime with this tangerine scrub. The little miss and I even painted our toes a bright and colorful orange after using the sugar scrub. Bring on the flip flops and Summer dresses!

Homemade Tangerine sugar scrub

Note: You can create a basic scrub using only coconut oil, sugar, and essential oil. It’s optional to use the grind of a tangerine and a soap colorant to dye the sugar scrub. I don’t always use soap colorants but this time around I preferred to have the orange hue in the scrub. Again, this is for appearance only and could be left out.

The tags are available as a square so that you could choose the shape of the tag. I used a 2 inch circle punch and adhesive runner to adhere the tag to the jar.

Coconut Tangerine Sugar Scrub

Yield: 2 cups

Ingredients

  1. 1 cup coconut oil
  2. 1-2 cups granulated sugar
  3. 6-8 drops tangerine essential oil
  4. 1 tangerine (optional)
  5. a few drops of orange soap colorant (optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine coconut oil, essential oil, and soap colorant together. Add 1-2 cups of sugar until you find the consistency you prefer. The more sugar used the coarser the scrub will become. Grate tangerine peel into sugar scrub and mix well.

Printable Birthday Gift Tags

Happy Friday my friends! It’s been awhile and I have to say I’ve missed you!  Life has been a little crazy these last few months but I’m slowly making my way back to creating again. I’ve been thinking about upcoming birthdays a lot lately and have been creating printables to share with you. Today I’m sharing these quick and easy pillow boxes with  free printable Happy Birthday gift tags.

Printable Happy Birthday Gift TagsOne of my favorite gifts to give are gift cards. I think I’ve mentioned this before? But yes, I love giving gift cards. Think it’s too impersonal? Nonsense! I think if you know what the person likes, they make a great gift. I receive Starbucks gift cards from friends and family all the time and I love receiving them. Mainly because I’m addicted to Starbucks and my friends know that. :) But giving gift cards in those thin little envelopes they offer for free, umm yeah not so cute. I like to find creative ways to pair gift cards or at least present them in a thoughtful way. Lately I’ve been playing with my pillow box punch board from We R Memory Keepers to make birthday pillow boxes to fill with gift cards.

The punch board is similar to the envelope punch board that I like using so much. You simply measure your paper to 6 inches wide and anywhere between 4-12 inches long. My favorite size is 6×6. I like that I can fit small party favors or gift cards and candy inside.

To make the pillow boxes I used:

Pillow Box Punch Board

Evolution die cutting tool

Tide Embossing Folder

Sticky Thumb adhesive runner

Pennant punch, twine, confetti, and glitter tape.

You can find We R Memory Keepers and Lifestyle Crafts products on Shopwer.com Use the code PUMPKIN to receive 20% off all products!

Lifestyle Crafts - We R Memory Keepers

The best thing about the punch boards is that the instructions are printed right on the board, making it easy to follow each step without looking for the instructions manual (although, it does come with a detailed picture tutorial as well).

We R Memory Keepers Pillow Box Board

To make an embossed pillow box I created the pillow box then ran it through the Evolution with my Tide embossing folder. I then glued the tab inside and closed the pillow box using the thumb notch made with the reverse punch.

Embossed Pillow Box

The printable birthday gift tags are on an 8×10 sheet. Half the sheet is made with fun frames and shapes and the other half has a simple Happy Birthday sentiment. You can use that side to create your own label designs with your cutting dies like I did below.

This post is brought to you by Collective Bias and their client.
Hey crafty friends! Today I’m sharing a movie night stocking stuffer idea for boys and a printable Christmas gift tag.

Movie Night Stocking Stuffer Ideas

My oldest isn’t a teen, yet, but he’s definitely grown up a lot in the last few years and no longer cares for toys in his stocking. Lately I’ve been getting him stuff that I know he’ll enjoy like movies and iTunes gift cards. He’s asked for a few movies for Christmas this year and I thought it would be great to make a movie night stocking stuffer gift for him. I picked up this cute mini stocking at Target along with some movie night snacks and a movie from his wishlist.

I added a bag of popcorn, beef jerky, and a hot cocoa packet. I plan to add a few of his favorite peppermint candies in there as well and an iTunes gift card. It’s perfect for him! movie stocking stufferI wanted to make some printable Christmas gift tags to go with the stocking. I used my We R Memory Keepers crop-a-dile to add an eyelet and ribbon.

Homemade Peppermint Sugar Scrub

DIY Peppermint Sugar Scrub

A  handmade gift idea under $5 – homemade peppermint sugar scrub mason jar gifts.

DIY Peppermint Sugar ScrubIf you’ve been a reader for awhile you know that I LOVE homemade sugar scrubs. Seriously, I’m borderline obsessed with them. Especially during the cold winter months. They’re perfect for moisturizing dry hands and cost next to nothing. I also enjoy giving them to friends and family for Christmas since they’re easy to make and look great in a mason jar with ribbon. We all love mason jar gifts right?

Speaking of mason jars, today I’m participating in a mason jar blog hop with a fabulous group of bloggers! Visit the links below for creative holiday mason jar ideas and free printables.

This peppermint sugar scrub recipe smells delightful! The peppermint is perfect for the holiday season and it does wonders to relieve dry hands from the cold. I keep a jar in the kitchen and bathroom at all times, often switching them out by seasonal scents. The peppermint has really put me in the holiday mood! I have my mom and friends hooked on them too, so I can’t wait to give these as Christmas gifts next month.

For this sugar scrub recipe I used coconut oil but you can also use Almond oil or grapeseed oil in place of the coconut. They have great moisturizing properties that will replenish moisture and remove dry skin cells. I’ve also added vitamin e oil, which also helps nourish dry skin.

Homemade Peppermint Sugar Scrub

Serving Size: 2 cups

Ingredients

  1. 1 1/2-2 cups sugar
  2. 1/2-1 cup coconut oil
  3. 4-6 drops peppermint essential oil
  4. 1 tsp vitamin e oil
  5. 1-3 drops red food coloring or soap colorant

Instructions

  1. Melt coconut oil in microwave for 30 seconds or until it becomes liquid.
  2. Mix in essential oil and vitamin e.
  3. Combine all ingredients in a mixing bowl.
  4. Divide scrub in half and use food coloring in one batch.
  5. Fill mason jar by alternating red and white scrub.
  6. Store in airtight container.

Notes

When making sugar scrub I recommend starting with 1 1/2 cups of sugar and adding 1/2 cup until you reach the consistency you enjoy the best. I prefer a coarser scrub with not as much oil so 2 1/2 cups of sugar is perfect for me.

Add drops of the peppermint essential oil until desired scent is achieved. I use about 5 drops but you can use a few more if you prefer a stronger scent.

Hot Cocoa Mason Jar Gift

Hot Cocoa Mason Jar Gift

This post is brought to you by Martha Stewart Crafts.
Hey friends, today I’m sharing an easy handmade Christmas gift. This hot cocoa mason jar gift with a silver doily and die cut snowflakes makes a great last minute neighbor or teacher gift.  Hot Cocoa Mason Jar Gift

I feel like I’m stuck between pulling out all the holly jolly Christmas decorations and get to craftin’ or enjoying this last part of the most beautiful season. Thanksgiving also happens to be my favorite holiday, which doesn’t get nearly as much attention in the crafting world as others do. So while I’m sharing a Christmas craft with you today know that I still have a few things in the works for Thanksgiving. But seriously, It’s getting harder to resist entering Christmas mode with every store filled with holiday decor. I’m this close to putting Elf on while enjoying a hot cup of cocoa filled to the brim with marshmallows.

Speaking of hot cocoa doesn’t it make a great handmade Christmas gift? Hot cocoa mason jar gifts are some of my favorite to give. This mason jar is embellished with a silver Martha Stewart doily and multi-surface decoupage. I then added die cut snowflakes and twine. The mason jar is filled with hot cocoa, marshmallows and mint M&M’s. Have you tried them? They’re delish!

Supplies:
Martha Stewart Crafts Decoupage
Martha Stewart Crafts Silver doily
Martha Stewart Crafts decoupage brush
mason jar

Martha Stewart Decoupage doilies

To make the jar applied a thin layer of decoupage to the front and placed my doily centered. I then applied another layer of decoupage to help seal it in place.  You could technically be done here and tied a red bow around the center of the jar. I had some snowflakes already die cut from last year so I glued those to the center of the doily.

Doily mason jarThis new decoupage formula is dishwasher safe and available at Michaels Stores or on Plaid’s online store. Plaid sent me a box full of Martha Stewart products to try and I have plenty of ideas using their new decoupage glues. There’s even a glitter decoupage that the kids can’t wait to try. I sense handmade Christmas ornaments in our future!

Create a handmade polka dot coffee mug gift for a friend this holiday season with DecoArt paint.

Handmade Coffee Mug Gift

Hey there crafty friends! Today I’m sharing a quick tutorial on how to make a polka dot coffee cup using Americana multi-surface paint. This handmade gift is perfect for the holidays, as a teacher gift, or for a special coffee lover in your life.

I’m a big fan of gifting coffee and chocolate They rank pretty high on my list of favorite things. Quite frankly I’m not sure what I would do without them in my life. :) I happen to really like the single serving (via) Starbucks coffee packets, they’re perfect for handmade gifts! I recently use them for a gift along with my favorite chocolate, a gift card, and handmade coffee mug. This coffee mug was super easy to make with a circle sponge and multi-surface paint.

Supplies:

Americana multi-surface paint in Black Tie

sponge dabber

rubbing alcohol + cotton ball

ceramic coffee cup

Polka Dot Coffee Cup

Prepare the coffee mug with rubbing alcohol and a cotton ball. Dip the sponge into the paint, remove any dripping excess and press onto cup. Allow to dry and repeat if necessary. Air cure the cup for 4 days then place in non-preheated oven. Bake for 30 minutes at 325 degrees. Cool with oven door open. Note: my circles came out with a few imperfections. Next time I will try using a vinyl stencil instead or a thicker sponge. I used the last bit of this multi-surface paint in black tie, it’s been my favorite for Halloween projects this year. I love that I can use it on a wide range of surfaces from wood to glass, plastic, and more!

I added paper filler, a pack of via Starbucks pumpkin spice coffee, a gift card, and chocolate. I also placed it inside clear cellophane and tied it with gold ribbon. A simple gift that’s perfect for a coffee lover.

Pumpkin Spice Latte Sugar Scrub

Pumpkin Spice Latte Sugar Scrub

If you’ve been following along this year you know that I love a good homemade sugar scrub recipe. Today I’m sharing another scrub recipe and quite possibly my favorite to date! This homemade pumpkin spice latte sugar scrub is perfect for fall. It’s infused with a pumpkin, coffee, and cinnamon scent that will remind you of a pumpkin spice latte!

Pumpkin Spice Latte Sugar Scrub

If we’re friends in real life you know that I’m completely obsessed with Starbucks. When pumpkin spice lattes arrive every year you can guarantee I’m waiting in line on the first day. I wanted to combine two of my favorite fall scents, coffee and pumpkin, into a sugar scrub that I could enjoy over the Fall. This scrub recipe turned out exactly like i imagined, smelling amazing and leaving my hands feeling moisturized.

Not only is making your own sugar scrubs cost effective but they’re easily adaptable to everyone’s preference. My suggestion is to play around with the ingredients until you find the scent and texture of your liking. I like a less oily scrub but you could easily increase the almond oil for a thinner scrub texture. Also, adjust the pumpkin spice and cinnamon by a tsp or two if you prefer a stronger scent.

This scrub has a variety of beneficial nutrients for your skin. The sugars help exfoliate dead skin cells while the vitamin e oil and almond oil nourish dry skin.
