DIY Watercolor Bookmarks

I’m hardcore crushing on all things watercolor right now. I’ve been playing with watercolors nonstop the last few weeks, thinking of anything and everything to used them on. These watercolor bookmarks are great as teacher gifts or for a fellow bookworm.

Supplies:

watercolor paints

brush

watercolor paper

Lifestyle Crafts Pocket Die

Watercolor Crafts - bookmarks

To make the ombre bookmarks I created a “wash” along the paper then ran horizontal brush strokes along the paper. It’s a little difficult to see the color in pictures but the ombre bookmarks are pink, orange, and yellow and blue, turquoise, and mint. The tie-dye bookmark, as my daughter called it, was made by dabbing the brush with various colors onto the paper and letting the colors run together. I love this marbled look with the bright colors like pink, purple, turquoise, and yellow.

Lifestyle Crafts - watercolor bookmark

Once the watercolors were dry I used my pocket die to cut out the bookmarks.

I then tied bakers twine through the top and placed them in the sleeves. The pocket die comes with the bookmark die, the sleeve with optional die cut front, and several tags that you can attach. Once I glued the pocket together I added gold glitter tape and bakers twine bows to the front.

These are great for gifting with books or you could slip a Barnes & Noble gift card inside with a note behind the bookmark. I plan to make a few more of these for Mother’s Day to give some of my fellow bookworm friends.

DIY Christmas Gift Card Envelopes {Giveaway}

DIY Christmas gift card envelopes

Create handmade gift card envelopes this holiday season in under 5 minutes with the We R Memory Keepers envelope punch board.

DIY Christmas gift card envelopesHey crafty friends! I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Did you brave the crowds on Black Friday? I surprisingly didn’t make it out. My husband went out early Friday morning and picked up everything on our list and was home before I woke up. Gotta love that guy! I’ve been battling a little bit of a cold this past week and going out in the crowds was the last thing I wanted to do. Thankfully the hubs picked up what I needed and my shopping is 75% done. The majority of the items on my list left will be gift cards along with a few handmade gifts.

Remember the DIY envelope tutorial I shared earlier this year? Well I used my We R Memory Keepers envelope board to create Christmas gift card envelopes. These take minutes to makes, that’s with a little embellishments added. I have to say this punch board has become one of my favorite tools this year! I use it to make gift card envelopes quite often and even the occasional birthday card envelope.

To make the envelopes I used the punch board, 5×5 inch paper, and a sticky thumb adhesive runner.

Envelope Punch BoardI trimmed my paper and aligned it to 2inches by following the measurements on the punch board.

diy envelopesOnce the paper had been scored and punched I turned the board over to create rounded corners with back of the punch. Love that feature on the boards!

Handmade EnvelopesI like to trim the center flap of my envelopes like the one on the left. It makes it easier to slip a gift card in and I think it looks cleaner. :)

St. Patrick’s Day Treats

Last week I shared with you the mint brownie ice cream push pops and today I’m ready to bring on the St. Patrick’s Day crafts! I’m starting off with these cute and simple St. Patrick’s Day treat boxes.

St. Patrick's Day Crafts

Are you big on St. Patrick’s Day crafts and recipes? Growing up, St. Patrick’s Day wasn’t a big holiday for us. We did however always get a new green shirt to wear to school. Now as a parent I try to make every holiday fun, whether we’re Irish or not, St. Patrick’s Day is filled with rainbow crafts and green clothes for our kiddos.

St. Patrick's Day Crafts

To make the St. Patrick’s Day treats I used the treat box die to cut my shape out. I then added a strip of washi tape above the tabs you will need to fold when assembling the box. Lifestyle Crafts

I then filled them with Hershey nuggets, I’ve been a little obsessed with these since the diy candy wrappers.

St. Patrick's Day Crafts

To finish the treat boxes I closed them with jute, added glitter star brads, and St. Patrick’s Day pins I found at Jo-Ann.

St. Patrick's Day Crafts

Lifestyle Crafts also wants to give one of my readers the Scalloped Cupcake Liner die! This kit comes with 3 different flower shapes, two leaves, and one cupcake wrapper die (you can use this die with most manual die-cutting machines). To enter use the rafflecopter widget below.

Mini Paper Pocket Valentines

Lifestyle Crafts mini pocket

A mini paper pocket is  great for adding candy or Valentine cards in. Pair the paper pocket with washi tape shapes and bakers twine to create an easy Valentine gift for classmates and friends.

Lifestyle Crafts mini pocket

The Lifestyle Crafts mini pocket provides endless possibilities whether you love paper crafting or want to create an easy personalized gift. I received this die the day before CHA and immediately considered making 25 business card holders with it. Planning a Disneyland trip for a family of 5 + preparing for CHA + 25 embellished paper business card holders is NOT ideal in my book. I think I ended up with 3 mini pockets to give companies my business card to. But I’m ok with that because I know this die will be put to use in other ways, especially for holiday treats and gift tags.

Lifestyle Crafts mini pocket

Now you know how much I LOVE washi tape, right? I’m kinda sort obsessed with the stuff. I may or may not have over 60 rolls with a few more on the way. Its a problem..I know! If you’re a washi tape fan like me then you’re going to love the new Shape N’ Tape washi tape sheets from Lifestyle Crafts. Not surprisingly they sold out almost immediately after they were released but I’m keeping an eye out for them to be restocked. Imagine the possibilities with the washi tape sheets..you can create any shape you want instead of being limited with a washi tape roll.

washi tape crafts

To make the candy paper pockets I used my die to cut the paper and folded on the perforated line.

Lifestyle Crafts mini pocket

If you look closely you can see thin “tabs” that are folded which is where you apply the glue to close the die.

Lifestyle Crafts mini pocket

Now its time to embellish the mini pocket. I used the Tape It Kit to cut a few shapes out. This kit has 18 shapes that are great for small craft projects or scrapbook layouts. But don’t worry you don’t need a die cutting machine to use the washi tape sheets! You can trace a shape on the back and cut it out with scissors or an xacto knife.

Lifestyle Crafts mini pocket

I added various washi tape shapes and bakers twine from The Twinery to embellish my valentines, then filled them with mini M&M bags.

Super Bowl Party Ideas: Easy Dip Display

Super Bowl Party Food Displays

With the Super Bowl quickly approaching my husband and I have been talking about our Super Bowl party plans. This is the first year in a long time that he’s going to have the time off to watch the game. Usually he misses at least half of the game which is never fun. We typically head over to my in laws house to gather for food, fun, and football! Since the hubs has the time off he’s thinking we should have a football party at our house. I may not be a huge football fan but I do love throwing parties! I’ve been thinking of Super Bowl party ideas for the big day. Here’s an easy football party dip display idea that I plan to set up for the big day.

Super Bowl Party Food Displays

I plan to make things easy on myself and use Rubbermaid containers for the majority of our party food. This way I can easily store leftovers or take the party food to my in laws if we decide to head over there. I also found a pack of football shaped plates at Target to place the containers on. Then of course I had to add something cute to the display so I added a little banner made with green paper straws. My husband says cute + football don’t belong in the same sentence but I think otherwise when we’re talking about a Super Bowl party. Oh and did i mention washi tape is involved? Yes, my love for washi tape is making an appearance on our Rubbermaid containers. Seriously, is there a cuter way to dress up containers for a party? Super Bowl Party Food Ideas

Paper Straw Banner

Last year I created a football tablescape at my in laws house, with football decor and party food. It would’ve been easy to transport everything over there in containers with lids but we were running late and I couldn’t find the lid to most of them! Errr does that every happen to you? So I was excited to find the Rubbermaid Easy Find Lids box at Target. There’s also a coupon you can print directly from the Target website.

Rubbermaid Easy Find Lids

With the Easy Find Lids there’s no need to clear our your cabinets and drawers looking for a lid ever again! With Rubbermaid Easy Find Lids you can keep your containers and lids organized in one place. The lids also snap to the bottom of each container so that you will never leave a lid behind at a party again. I picked up the large box filled with various container sizes that I can use for party food and dips. They will also come in handy for lunch and picnics at the park with the kids this Spring.

Party Food Display Ideas

Rubbermaid is hosting a Game Day Party Sweepstakes.  They are offering the chance to win an Easy Find Lids Party Pack, a 48Qt Cooler and $100 VISA gift card! Entries are limited to one entry per person / per email address / per day. Sweepstakes starts December 19, 2012 and ends January 21, 2013.

Valentine’s Day Countdown

Valentine's Day Countdown

Happy New Year, my friends! How’s 2013 treating you so far? The first couple of days have been great for us. My mother’s birthday is on New Year’s so we kept with tradition and had her stay the night with us on New Year’s Eve. The kids love when grandma stays the night, even though my oldest is the only one that stays up until midnight. We partied hard with Just Dance 4, a little Play-Doh food makin’, and enjoyed mini pizzokies..yum! Now that the holidays are officially over its time to start looking forward to new projects and Valentine’s Day. Are you ready for cutesy pink love notes? I hope so because today I’m sharing our Valentine’s Day Countdown.

Valentine's Day Countdown

Lifestyle Crafts released their new Love Notes line this week and first on my list was to make a Valentine’s Day countdown using the Valentine Matchbook Die.

Valentine's Day Countdown

This is such a cute die with a small note card to write a sweet message on. I wrote something I love about each of the kids on each one for 14 days straight. I’m SO excited to share this with the kids. After the kids read their message each day I plan to save the notes to add into our Project Life album. This may just be a new Valentine’s Day tradition for us!

Valentine's Day Countdown

To create the heart envelopes cut the dies out and fold on the perforated lines. Add the note card inside then fold the heart closed. I added a small glitter heart on top for some extra bling.

Valentine's Day Countdown

I then used bakers twine and mini clothespins to display them in an open frame.

Over the next few weeks I’ll share new projects using the Heart Box Die and Heart Insert Die. Which are just as cute!

Paper Bow {Christmas Gift Wrap Ideas}

Lifestyle Crafts Knotty and Nice Discount

By now you may have realized that I LOVE paper crafts. Earlier this year I began reading a few paper crafting magazines and quickly became fascinated with all the tools and techniques. There’s still so much I have yet to explore but I feel like I’ve come a long way and am learning what my favorite paper craft tools are. Today I’m going to share with you my latest paper crafting project…Paper Bows!

Lifestyle Crafts Knotty and Nice Discount

Lifestyle Crafts released two new gift sets called Knotty & Nice. The bundles come with a variety of dies that can be used to embellish gifts, for scrapbook layouts, and even home decor projects. Take a look at what I’ve been making with the new paper bow and doily dies.

DIY Paper Bows

I found the take out boxes at World Market then used both gift sets to create simple yet pretty little treat boxes to give to friends this holiday season.

DIY Paper Bows

My favorite is this kraft paper package with the silver bow. I used the matchbox die to create the box but I also have a simple box tutorial if you don’t have a die cutting machine.

Halloween Spider Pumpkin

Lifestyle Crafts Tricks 'N Treats

I can’t stop making black & white Halloween decorations this year..I just love the combo! I also can’t get over these cute little white pumpkins I found at Target recently. With some new Lifestyle Crafts cutting dies I was able to transform a plain white pumpkin into a spooky spider pumpkin to add to my Halloween decor.

Lifestyle Crafts Tricks 'N Treats

From the new Tricks ‘N Treats collection I used the Spiderweb Punches die to embellish this itty bitty pumpkin. I simply cut the dies out then ran them through my Xyron machine. Off topic but I purchase this at Michaels about 6 years ago and recently found it in my garage with the original cartridge. What was I thinking!?! I love this thing! Have you used one? You can create stickers out of anything that will fit. I purchased it for my scrapbooking but as you can see I’m way behind on my scrapbooking if I just recently discovered it again. My only complaint about using it with such small dies is that a lot of the stickiness got on top of the spiders. But overall I like my new Halloween spider pumpkin, it’s different and the colors work perfectly with my decor.
