Valentine’s Day Party With Martha Stewart Crafts

Mini Marshmallow Pops

Valentine’s Day is two days away! Can you believe that? I’m pretty sure we were just talking about Christmas and New Year’s. However I am looking forward to Valentine’s Day! Every year we do something special for the kids. Last year we had a party a few days before and celebrated with friends. This year we’re keeping it simple, but that hasn’t stopped me from putting together a few Valentine’s Day crafts. Here’s a peek at our Valentine’s Day Party with Martha Stewart Crafts supplies.

Mini Marshmallow Pops

It doesn’t get much easier than mini marshmallow pops! To make them I used:

mini strawberry marshmallows

CandiQuick

sprinkles

heart paper straws cut in half

I carefully inserted the straw into the mini marshmallows and dipped them into melted CandiQuick then top with sprinkles. These are about 1/3 of the size of a regular marshmallow which are the perfect size if I do say so myself. Just for fun I added tags that I stamped with the Martha Stewart mini wood stamp and heart stickers. I love that the stamps come in a wood crate to hold them all in one place.

Martha Stewart Crafts Valentines Day Party

I also made tags for their valentine paper straws using a flourish punch and cupcake dimensional stickers.

Paper Straws with Tags

These stickers are too cute to throw out after our party so I made sure to make them removable from the straw.

Paper Straws with tags

I used a permanent foam adhesive dot and slightly wrapped it around the straw. Its strong enough to hold the tag in place but still removable after use. I think I’m going to save it for our Project Life album after we’re done with them.Valentine's Day straws

Last but not least we’re in the process of making a few last minute Valentine cards for grandma and grandpa using the mini Valentine card & sticker set. Valentine's Day cardsYou can save 20% at MarthaStewartCrafts.com now through Valentine’s Day! Just enter the coupon code BLOG20 at checkout.

Mini Paper Pocket Valentines

Lifestyle Crafts mini pocket

A mini paper pocket is  great for adding candy or Valentine cards in. Pair the paper pocket with washi tape shapes and bakers twine to create an easy Valentine gift for classmates and friends.

Lifestyle Crafts mini pocket

The Lifestyle Crafts mini pocket provides endless possibilities whether you love paper crafting or want to create an easy personalized gift. I received this die the day before CHA and immediately considered making 25 business card holders with it. Planning a Disneyland trip for a family of 5 + preparing for CHA + 25 embellished paper business card holders is NOT ideal in my book. I think I ended up with 3 mini pockets to give companies my business card to. But I’m ok with that because I know this die will be put to use in other ways, especially for holiday treats and gift tags.

Lifestyle Crafts mini pocket

Now you know how much I LOVE washi tape, right? I’m kinda sort obsessed with the stuff. I may or may not have over 60 rolls with a few more on the way. Its a problem..I know! If you’re a washi tape fan like me then you’re going to love the new Shape N’ Tape washi tape sheets from Lifestyle Crafts. Not surprisingly they sold out almost immediately after they were released but I’m keeping an eye out for them to be restocked. Imagine the possibilities with the washi tape sheets..you can create any shape you want instead of being limited with a washi tape roll.

washi tape crafts

To make the candy paper pockets I used my die to cut the paper and folded on the perforated line.

Lifestyle Crafts mini pocket

If you look closely you can see thin “tabs” that are folded which is where you apply the glue to close the die.

Lifestyle Crafts mini pocket

Now its time to embellish the mini pocket. I used the Tape It Kit to cut a few shapes out. This kit has 18 shapes that are great for small craft projects or scrapbook layouts. But don’t worry you don’t need a die cutting machine to use the washi tape sheets! You can trace a shape on the back and cut it out with scissors or an xacto knife.

Lifestyle Crafts mini pocket

I added various washi tape shapes and bakers twine from The Twinery to embellish my valentines, then filled them with mini M&M bags.

Valentine Hershey Candy Wrappers

Hershey's candy wrappers

Today I’m sharing a quick and easy way to wrap candy for Valentine’s day. This scrapbook paper wrapped Valentine Hershey Candy gift is a cute idea for kids of all ages and once you get started you’ll want to make  a whole bag of them! They’re so easy to make and are a great way to turn a plain candy into a themed seasonal, holiday, or birthday gift.

Hershey's Candy Wrappers Have you noticed that I’ve been sharing a lot of paper crafts lately? I love them! But I promise I’ll get to some new stuff soon. I’m actually half way through several DIY projects that I can’t wait to share with you. Paper crafts are just so much easier for me to finish and write but the piles of unfinished projects are building up around the house and I need to get on them! Speaking of DIY I’m anxious to remodel our kitchen, its something we’ve been talking about doing since last Spring. Super random for a Valentine candy post isn’t it? HA! Well I’m pretty random and also very indecisive about what color to paint our kitchen cabinets. OK I’m probably the most indecisive person ever, but I do love white and ya know the white cabinet bandwagon is going around so I might as well jump on it! :)

I’m just torn whether white cabinets are the best option for our family. For some reason I think they’ll be easier to keep clean in 18 years when the kids are away at college. So tell me..white cabinets yay or nay? Do you have them and love them? Or are they impossible to keep clean?

And now back to your regularly scheduled program…

Hershey's Candy Wrappers

To make the Valentine candy you will need a bag of Hershey Nuggets, scrapbook paper, and glue or tape. Begin by cutting your paper to 1 inch wide x 3 inches long. Then simply glue or tape the paper around the Hershey nugget and repeat!

Hershey's Candy wrappers They really are fun to make, even the kids wanted to join in to make a couple of candy boxes. We packaged 3-4 Hershey Nuggets into a Lifestyle Crafts dessert box. In case you are wondering the paper is My Minds Eye, twine from The Twinery, brad and paper for the candy are from Hobby Lobby.

Valentine’s Day Treat Ideas & S’mores Valentine Gift

Valentine's Day Ideas

S’mores are a Summer time favorite but with pink marshmallow hearts a s’mores gift is perfect for Valentine’s day. This s’mores treat gift box makes a great Valentine gift for a teacher, friend, or as a surprise for the kids. Today I’m also sharing with you some of my favorite Valentine’s Day treat ideas that don’t require a die cutting machine!

Valentine's Day Ideas

To make the s’mores valentine gift I used the treat carrier I shared last Summer. Its currently out of stock from Lifestyle Crafts, but if you don’t have a die cutting machine there are plenty of other options to make a s’mores gift. A few ideas is to repurpose a food box and mod podge it with scrapbook paper or you could place everything in a mason jar, add a doily to the lid, and tie it with bakers twine for a sweet and simple gift jar.

To make the s’mores gift you will need:

clear plastic bags

bakers twine

scrapbook paper

marshmallow hearts

graham crackers

Hershey’s candy bars

S'mores gift ideas

Adding scrapbook paper to clear bags is a fun way to embellish treats for every occasion. I’m a bit of a scrapbook paper lover so I’m always looking for ways to use my ever growing supply. For the marshmallow bags I trimmed the scrapbook paper down to size then added washi tape to close the bag. Oh and how cute are those small marshmallow hearts? Last year I used them for my mini heart brownies, so I was happy to find them again this year.

Heart Grapevine Wreath

Pink heart grapevine wreath

Hey crafty friends! Today I’m sharing with you my Valentine’s Day heart grapevine wreath. Its simple to make and pretty in pink!

Pink heart grapevine wreath

So random story..right out of high school I worked at a major craft store before I worked as a substitute teacher. It was a wonderful and terrible thing all at once. You see I was now exposed to a whole new world of crafts by working there. I had been visiting craft stores for as long as I could remember, but when you work in one its when you find all the neat crafts that you haven’t tried. So much if not all of my income went to the store. I spent the majority of my breaks looking for new and exciting products I had yet to try. I went through hobbies like hotcakes during that time period. Cake making was my biggest, in fact I just donated a large bag of cake making supplies yesterday. I took a few of the Wilton courses and thought it was my calling haha jk but I still really enjoy making cakes. I also had probably still have a big collection of soap making supplies (one year I gave everyone pink angel soap bars for Christmas..they were the cutest..or so I thought?), candle making, yarn hoarding (because I can’t learn to knit/crochet for the life of me), flower arrangement making, candy making, and of course my ever growing scrapbooking supplies. I stopped at the drawing/art supplies, because let’s just say I’m still drawing stick figures while my son can draw pictures of things I could never even think of in my head.

Anyways what I was saying is that I was a huge fan of making wreaths back then and had purchased a heart grapevine wreath for Valentine’s Day one year. I used a red rose garland to cover the wreath. I thought it was the best wreath EVER! Needless to say I found that wreath in a container this weekend and yikes, it’s hideous! Gah do you ever find something years later and wonder what you were thinking? This thing was atrocious, I couldn’t even post a pic because it would scare you. haha :)

At first glance I thought it was going to be a pain trying to remove the hot glued flowers off of it but then realized hot glue was never used to make the wreath. I had tied the garland onto the wreath with floral wire instead. Luckily I was able to save the wreath and turn it into a pretty heart Valentine’s Day wreath that I’ll hopefully love for years.

Supplies:

  • heart grapevine wreath
  • two flower stems
  • floral wire
  • floral wire cutters

how to decorate a grapevine wreath Pink Heart Valentine's Day Wreath

To make the wreath I trimmed the floral stem to fit around the wreath. Each side has a flower stem tied down with floral wire. To help fill in gaps I added a few loose flowers with a small amount of hot glue. Then I added hot pink satin ribbon to hang it with a command hook.

Have you started decorating for Valentine’s Day? I’m working on my mantel this week, I can’t wait to show it to you!

Message in a Bottle Valentine

Creative Valentine's Day Ideas

Hey, hey there awesome friends! I’ve been so busy this week getting ready for CHA. Ahhh I’m so excited to share all the details with you. But before I get ahead of myself let me share with you a cute and easy Valentine’s Day gift idea that costs under $5 to make. Oh and guess what? Its from the dollar store! Are you a dollar store fan? It seems to be hit and miss with me. Sometimes I find some pretty cute things to craft with and other times I walk out empty handed. Then there are times when I walk in thinking I’m going in for something specific then come out with a bag full of things I didn’t intend to buy at all. Like this cute Message in a Bottle Valentine!

Creative Valentine's Day Ideas

Seriously how cute is this Valentine idea? While picking up some Styrofoam balls at the dollar store I came across a Glass Message in a Bottle. I thought it was the cutest idea for a Valentine’s day gift! Plus it was only $1, how could you pass that up?

valentine's day gift ideas

The original was not my style at all but after a little searching in my craft supplies I remade it into a cute pink vinyl heart covered bottle.

Creative Valentine's Day Gift Ideas

There’s pink confetti hearts inside as well as a little love note tied with pink bakers twine for my sweetheart. The pom pom trim and ribbon are from Hobby Lobby and the confetti hearts are from a Lifestyle Crafts die.

Creative Valentine's Day Gift Ideas

I used my die cutting machine to cut half inch size hearts in two different pink colors of vinyl. If you don’t have a cutting machine another great option is to use stickers. You can find all sorts of cute heart stickers for about a dollar everywhere from the craft store to the grocery store. For the note I used scrapbook paper, because you guessed it..there are pink hearts on it! :)

Valentine’s Day Countdown

Valentine's Day Countdown

Happy New Year, my friends! How’s 2013 treating you so far? The first couple of days have been great for us. My mother’s birthday is on New Year’s so we kept with tradition and had her stay the night with us on New Year’s Eve. The kids love when grandma stays the night, even though my oldest is the only one that stays up until midnight. We partied hard with Just Dance 4, a little Play-Doh food makin’, and enjoyed mini pizzokies..yum! Now that the holidays are officially over its time to start looking forward to new projects and Valentine’s Day. Are you ready for cutesy pink love notes? I hope so because today I’m sharing our Valentine’s Day Countdown.

Valentine's Day Countdown

Lifestyle Crafts released their new Love Notes line this week and first on my list was to make a Valentine’s Day countdown using the Valentine Matchbook Die.

Valentine's Day Countdown

This is such a cute die with a small note card to write a sweet message on. I wrote something I love about each of the kids on each one for 14 days straight. I’m SO excited to share this with the kids. After the kids read their message each day I plan to save the notes to add into our Project Life album. This may just be a new Valentine’s Day tradition for us!

Valentine's Day Countdown

To create the heart envelopes cut the dies out and fold on the perforated lines. Add the note card inside then fold the heart closed. I added a small glitter heart on top for some extra bling.

Valentine's Day Countdown

I then used bakers twine and mini clothespins to display them in an open frame.

Over the next few weeks I’ll share new projects using the Heart Box Die and Heart Insert Die. Which are just as cute!
