Hi friends! Did you see my Winter Wonderland Tree at the beginning of the month? Today I’m sharing handmade ornament details and a few tips on decorating a Christmas tree.
As I mentioned in my original post, my initial idea was to create an all white Christmas tree. When I walked into Michaels and saw their light green glitter poinsettia flowers and sprays I knew they would look great with white ornaments. The light green sprays subtly enhance the tree and are great to use as a filler. The particular sprays I used have light greenery, glitter apples, and white berries. I used about 10 of these to help fill in space before adding the ornaments. My order of decorating went a little like this: 3 white pinecone garlands, sprays/picks, poinsettia flowers, handmade ornaments, round ball ornaments. Thankfully, the tree was pre lit so I didn’t have to bother with stringing lights.
My favorite handmade ornaments on the tree are the initial ceramic ornaments. These were made with sequin cardstock, thickers green glitter letters, ceramic ornament frames, and hot glue.
I cut the sequin paper (have a good pair of scissors around, this paper is thick!) and glued it onto the back of the ornament. I decided to leave the ceramic frame unpainted then added a sticker letter inside. Since the paper is uneven I used a small amount of hot glue to make sure it stayed in place permanently. To finish it off I used a pretty silver ribbon found in the Christmas ribbon aisle to hang the ornament.
Did you know Epsom salt is great for decorating during the holidays? I’ve used epsom salt on mason jars to create beautiful luminaries and recently on ornament balls. Using wooden snowflakes I created a snow effect with white paint and epsom salt. I used a coat of Americana multi-surface paint in cottonball then once the paint dried I added a layer of glue (decoupage or tacky glue). Simply sprinkle the epsom salt on and remove any excess once it’s dry.
I was really impressed with the ornaments Michaels has this year. The ceramic ornaments were trendy and great for customizing to the theme of your tree. I also kept this deer ornament unpainted because the ceramic white fit perfectly with our winter wonderland theme. I used a small brush to add glue and fine glitter on the deer.
Oh My I am Loving your Ornaments that you have made. Love everything White. Really Love the Frame. I am actually making white Crocheted Snowflakes. Going to be giving everyone in my family one. Hope I get them all done. Glad I stopped by to visit you. :0)

Wow your tree is gorgeous, love colors you’re using, very soft and festive. Not overdone at all. Nice to see little bit of tree. I’d so love to have a real tree this year for the fragrance. Your ornaments are so pretty, love them. The variety you’re using is very pretty in your room. It’s such fun isn’t it along with hard work to decorate your tree every year? I love to make ornaments to give people for gifts. I’ll be pinning your ornaments to use for ideas for our craft show on 12/13.
Real trees have gotten so expensive here they’re getting way out of our budget range and we don’t get paid til Christmas Eve. Nice timing. At least it’s better than last year, day after Christmas. We get paid day before Thanksgiving also. Not too easy to take advantage of turkey bargains but at least we get paid, lol.
I don’t care if it’s a scraggly Charlie Brown tree, want that fragrance. Hope to get some spare branches to use for decorating tables and shutter shelf. Here they charge for them, (Grand Junction, CO area).
Luckily our cat and dog don’t bother tree at all. We can even leave out cat in back yard, he doesn’t bother our chickens. Our dog would really get after him if he did, dog loves his chickens, watches over them like they’re his kids.
Sure glad I clicked on your post to find great ideas to make items for our craft show.
Enjoy crafting in this wonderful season.
So pretty!
Thanks for the tip about the epson salt. I’m not a huge glitter fan but I do like the sparkle and texture from the salt.
Beautiful tree!! Love the snowflakes!!
