How to make gold foil candle wraps.
This post was created in partnership with American Crafts and Heidi Swapp.
Hey crafty friends! I’m so excited to share a hot new tool with you today. In case you haven’t heard, Heidi Swapp designed a machine that applies foil over printed ink. This machine is amazing! I seriously want to foil all the things! It works similar to a laminator and is very user friendly. You simply take a laser printed piece of paper and lay your foil on top. Insert your foil and design in the clear sleeve, then run it through your Minc machine and be amazed by your custom foiled projects. Today I’m going to share how to make foil candle wraps with the Minc foil applicator. I’ve added an Amazon affiliate links below to where you can find the machine online. I’m also sharing other retailers at the bottom of the post. But first, let’s get started on creating your own gold foil candle wraps!
Supplies:
Minc Foil Applicator
Minc Gold Foil
Minc Paper Pad
Scissors
Adhesive spray or strong adhesive gluestick
Step one: trim paper and foil to the size of your project surface. I like to have a little bit of excess foil over the paper. It’s important that the foil or another piece of paper covers ALL ink before running it through the machine. If there is exposed printed ink it will transfer onto your clear sleeve and will then transfer onto future projects (not good!). Place your project ink side up and your foil on top with the foil facing up as well.
Step two: Turn on the machine and select the correct setting. Most projects will use the number 3 setting. The lower numbers are for thinner pieces of paper like vellum, while the higher settings are for chipboard. Once your project is in place slide the clear sleeve through the machine and it will automatically begin to go through on it’s own. The whole process takes about a minute.
Step three: remove the foil from your project. Everything that had ink on your cardstock will now be covered in foil. I used the negative space – meaning instead of working with the cardstock I took the used piece of foil to create the candle wraps. I simple trimmed the foil to the correct size and applied it with my favorite X-treme Elmer’s glue stick.
So you’re wondering what’s this magical machine I’m talking about? Here’s the scoop! The Minc machine works on any kind of laser printed artwork or Heidi Swapp Minc products. The Minc line is available online or at JoAnn, Hobby Lobby, and local independent craft stores. The Minc foil applicatior and starter kit MSRP is $149 and the Minc foil MSRP $9.99. Minc accessories MSRP from $2.99 to $12.99
• The Minc is a fairly lightweight and compact. It measures about 19.5” x 5” so it doesn’t take a ton of storage space.
• Minc features:
◦ Ability to accept a 12” wide sheet
◦ Four pressure rollers (most laminators have two) to evenly distribute pressure across a 12×12 surface.
◦ A heating element that covers the entire 12”, as opposed heat focused at the outer edges (also common in every day laminators)
◦ Adjustable heat settings that allows for foil transfer on sensitive materials like vellum, all the way to more robust chipboard and even thin wood veneer.
This machine is amazing! Not only is it great for scrapbooking, but also you can use it for home décor, custom artwork, gift-wrap and so much more. I’m excited to share new projects ideas with you over the next few months. I’m working on some fun printables for you guys that you can use with the Minc, so stay tune!
You blow my mind! Who would have thought to do that?!
