Have you ever received a gift you thought was the best gift ever, only to have it stop working after a few months? That’s the case with a laptop my husband gave me as a birthday gift years ago. It was my first laptop, the first time I would be able to work on campus or Starbucks whenever I pleased. The idea of not having to be confined to a computer desk was exciting, this really was the best gift ever! Until 3 months later is stopped working. Whaaaattt?? All my excitement flew out the window, that is until the trusty Best Buy Geek Squad came to the rescue.
Okay so they didn’t come to me but I went to them. I took my precious laptop to Best Buy but since it was still under warranty with the manufacture I would need to work directly with them. That first year, still under the manufacture warranty, I had three separate issues with the laptop. Talk about a gift gone wrong! Fast forward a year (about two years after I received the laptop) it suddenly stopped working again. Ahhh I gave up! My husband and I decided that we were going to buy a MacBook Pro instead. Best decision ever! We stopped focusing on the old laptop and kept it stored away until recently.
Now that my oldest is starting tp receive homework assignments that require him to use a computer he’s been asking for a small laptop of his own. This is where the old laptop comes in. If we repair the laptop we won’t have to buy a new laptop for the kiddo and I do remember the parental controls on Windows Vista were great. So its a win-win for us.
The Geek Squad Tech Support service has made it an easy and much happier experience this time around. Being a member of the Geek Squad tech support I was able to log on to the website and find out who I need to talk to about getting an in-store repair. The best part about the service is that you can have a Geek Squad tech available to help you 24/7. With your permission they can directly access your computer and you sit back and watch them identify the problem on your screen. They’ll also show you how to prevent it from occurring again. How awesome is that?
I took the laptop into a Best Buy store and a Geek Squad tech support employee named Spence was the funniest, nicest employee ever! He was able to identify the main issue is that the hard drive is corrupt and needs to be replaced. Since I am a member of the Geek Squad tech support the only cost to us is the hard drive, all of the labor will be free of charge. Woohoo, best news to ever come from this laptop!
We are in the process of having the computer manufacture send us the utility disk so that Best Buy can reinstall the software once the new hard drive is in place. Then they will check to see if there are any other issues that need to be fixed. I’m pretty confident that they will be able to get this good ol’ laptop up and running again. My son is thrilled to be getting his own laptop and I’m happy to have had a great experience this time around with the help of Geek Squad tech support.
Thanks for stopping by!
