Peppermint Mason Jar Candles

Hey crafty friends! As we get ready for holidays I’ve been thinking of handmade gifts to give our friends and family. My sisters often receive my favorite homemade sugar scrubs and bath bombs. Last year I also made a big batch of soy candles in a variety of scents to give away. I think handmade gifts are the best! It’s meaningful when you can create something special in your home to give friends, family, co-workers and neighbors. This year I plan to gift as many handmade gifts as I can so I started working on them a few weeks ago. This DIY peppermint candle is one of my favorites that I’ll be making extras for myself.

DIY Peppermint Candles

If you’ve haven’t tried making your own candles before you might be surprised by how easy they are to make. You’re essentially just melting the candle wax, mixing in your favorite scent, and pouring it into your candle mold or mason jar. Today I’m sharing this easy soy peppermint candle tutorial using mason jars and tea light cups. I’ve added Amazon affiliate links to the products I used below.

Supplies:

Soy Candle Wax

Peppermint Essential Oil

Mason Jar

Candle Wick

Tea Light Cups

Please note: I used 1 ½ cups of candle flakes to make 1 half pint mason jar candle. When I used 2 cups of candle flakes I was able to make a mason jar candle and a few tea light candles. I recommend having your candlewicks ready just in case you have any remaining candle wax.

Step one: Glue candlewick in the center of your mason jar or tea light cup.

How to make soy candlesStep two: melt soy candle flakes over a double boiler or in microwave according to package directions. I like to melt mine in a large pyrex measuring cup (4 cup size) for easy pouring.

Step three: once the wax is melted stir in peppermint oil (about 15-20 drops). Pour into mason jar or tea lights. Use a pencil to wrap the candlewick and hold in place while the candle wax hardens. Leave candle to harden for several hours or overnight.Trim candlewick before lighting.

If you decide to decorate your candle gift I recommend using embellishments that can be easily removed before lighting.

These would be great for my daughter who struggles with frequent nausea as peppermint can be good aroma therapy for an upset stomach.

Hello – I’d like to make these for Christmas. If I were to purchase the 5lb bag of soy candle flakes, how many 1/2 pint jar candles do you think it’d make? I figure I want to make about 8 1/2 pint mason jar candles.

Thanks!

Can you put pieces of candy canes on the soy wax for the peppermint candles??

I just want to make sure that it won’t change the consistancy or melt them?

Making these tomorrow night!!

Thanks!!
