How to make faux pumpkin candles.

Hey crafty friends! Have you noticed the rose gold trend? I’ve come across watches, purses, and more recently home décor. Rose gold is such a beautiful color and I’ve jumped right onto that bandwagon. I usually don’t make colorful pumpkins to display around the house, but I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to paint these inexpensive faux pumpkins with DecoArt’s metallic lustre. I think the metallic sheen is absolutely beautiful and perfect for fall. Today I’m sharing a quick and easy tutorial on how to make faux pumpkin candles.
Supplies:
DecoArt Metallic Lustre in Rose Gold
Faux pumpkins
Brush
Carving tool or xacto knife
Adhesive Rhinestones
Tea lights
Step one: paint your faux pumpkins with 1-2 coats of rose gold metallic lustre. I’m using dollar pumpkins I found at Walmart. You can check your local craft store and the dollar store for these inexpensive foam pumpkins. I used a couple different brushes and found that my fingers worked the best. I know that sounds odd but I promise it washes right off. Simply take a small amount on your fingertips and rub the paint on. This method had the best coverage in the least amount of time. You can also use a foam brush, but it did take me longer and required an extra coat to get full coverage. Also, make sure each coat is completely dry before applying a new coat.
Step two: use a tea light to trace the area you need to carve out of the pumpkin. I used an xacto knife but any small pairing knife or carving tool will work. You also don’t need to carve a lot, just enough to fit the tea light inside.
Step three: apply adhesive rhinestones around the pumpkins. I had a pack in my craft supplies that I trimmed down to fit the size of the pumpkins I was working with.
These would make a great centerpiece on a Thanksgiving tablescape. I’m looking forward to playing around with them around the house until I find the perfect spot to display them.
These are so pretty! I love the metallic paint. ♥
