Hello, friends. Can you believe Halloween is only a few days away? This month has been a whirlwind of Halloween activities and festivities for our family. With Halloween falling on a Saturday there are so many local family events that we’re having a hard time choosing which to attend. For us Halloween is extra special because we get to celebrate my oldest son’s birthday. It’s always a fun day filled with plenty of sweets and family time. While we still haven’t decided on which activities to partake in during the day, one thing is for sure – my kids will be ready to hand out candy early in the evening. They love seeing their neighborhood friends stop by and handing out treats to them. Every year we light up our walkway with mason jar luminaries to welcome our trick or treaters. Usually I have the kids help paint mason jars or we use stickers to decorate them with. This year I decided to quickly whip up these faux etched mason jar luminaries.
DIY Halloween Mason Jar Luminaries
Supplies:
Etched glass vinyl
Mason Jars
Cricut Explore Air Wireless Cutting Machine
Have you tried etched glass vinyl? It’s amazing! You can create etched glass designs without all the work. You simply cut your vinyl and apply it to the mason jar like a sticker. I used the Cricut explore design space to find the bats, spider web, and haunted house shapes. I used the vinyl setting and it cut perfectly. Since the shapes didn’t have any intricate designs I skipped the transfer paper, but you can definitely use that for application. I’m using tinted mason jars from Michaels (they’re seasonal) but if you can’t find them you can use regular jars and paint them.
Note: for safety reason we ALWAYS use faux tea lights in our mason jars. I only used real votive candles for this tutorial because I couldn’t find the faux tea lights. I’ll be heading to the craft store in a few days to more. :)
