Homemade Chocolate Bunny – How to make candy surprise chocolate bunnies for Easter.
Homemade Chocolate Bunny
I’m so excited to share my first Easter project of the year. I go through stages where I feel motivated to craft, create, bake, etc. then I go through stages when I can’t seem to find inspiration. The holidays tend to bring out the creative side in me and usually inspire me to create with the kids.
Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about Easter and what egg decorating ideas I want to make with the kids this year. Over the years I’ve had a lot of fun sharing our popular Dyed Minion Eggs, Disney Pixar Easter Eggs, Ninja Turtle eggs, and Frozen Easter eggs. With that in mind, I’ve also been thinking about what to fill their Easter baskets with and these homemade chocolate bunnies came to mind. The best part is that they are filled with candy and sprinkles! Today I’m going to share how to make your own chocolate bunnies.

How to make a chocolate bunny
Place your mold in the freezer for 5 minutes before getting started. This will help the chocolate set faster.
Step one: melt ½ cup chocolate wafers in a microwave-safe dish; stirring every 30 seconds.
Step two: pour chocolate in the mold and gently tap out any air bubbles. Place in freezer for 5 minutes, then repeat with another layer of chocolate. Remember that you want the center to be hollow so focus on filling the edges first. Place mold back into the freezer for 5 minutes.
Step three: once the chocolate has set, fill the bunny with candy and sprinkles. Melt ¼ cup chocolate wafers and place melted chocolate in a piping bag (it’s best to let the chocolate cool for a few minutes before adding it into the piping bag).
Step four: pipe the edges of the bunny and place the other half on top. Immediately place chocolate bunny in the freezer. Remove from the mold; fill any remaining gaps and put back into the freezer for a few minutes.
These were a trial run before I make them for Easter and my kids LOVED them! They were completely surprised by the candy inside. I plan to either wrap them in clear bags or mason jars with candy grass and Cadbury eggs on the bottom.
