Valentine’s Day Dessert Board
Charcuterie boards have increasingly gained popularity in recent years. A charcuterie board typically consists of cured meats and cheese. The boards are simple to assemble and can be used for every occasion. Charcuterie boards make great food options for holiday gatherings, parties, girl’s nights, or simply to enjoy with family and friends.
Today I’m excited to share this Valentine’s Day dessert board you can make for your loved ones. My inspiration for this board came from the heart-shaped macarons. After that, it was easy to find holiday-themed desserts that fit perfectly with pink and red hues. The goal is to assemble a board with a lot of texture and color that fits with your theme. Whether that’s a sweet board or savory charcuterie board, be sure to add a variety of colorful foods.
What to add to a dessert charcuterie board
- Macarons – we found these heart shaped macarons at Costco. Check local bakeries, grocery stores, or make your own at home for a fun themed addition to your Valentine’s board.
- Marshmallows – following with our love theme, the heart shaped marshmallows were a kid-favorite. Find them at local grocery stores around the holidays or add homemade marshmallows to the board.
- Cookies – our board featured Valentine Oreo cookies with pink frosting. Check Trader Joe’s for fun holiday cookies throughout the year.
- Chocolate covered strawberries – create your own chocolate covered strawberries by patting dry strawberries and dipping in dark chocolate. Once the chocolate has set, drizzle white chocolate on top and allow chocolate to harden before placing on your dessert board.
- Candy – holiday candy comes in so many fun shapes and sizes. Use a variety to spread across the dessert board. For our Valentine’s Day dessert board, I found the XO gummies at Trader Joe’s, the wrapped chocolate and cinnamon lips at Target.
- Fruit – add some color to your board with fresh fruit like raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, kiwi, dragon fruit and papaya.
- Dips – in a dessert charcuterie board, you may want to add dips like Nutella, whipped cream or a yogurt dip. This can be paired with crackers, waffle cookies, or fresh fruit.
Tip: add 2-3 small dishes to add height and dimension to your board. Fill with small candies, dips or nuts.
How to assemble a sweet charcuterie board
The goal is to make your board look full, with a lot of texture and colors. Think about the theme you’re going for and if you want to add some savory elements. This Valentine’s Day board was definitely on the sweet side made with holiday candy and desserts. The fun part is preparing the charcuterie board in varying patterns. There’s no wrong way to do this. Simply start adding your food in small gatherings and follow patterns around the board shape or going in every direction. Get creative and have fun with the layout. It’s really simple and quick to fill once you get started.
