DIY Party Hats

Am I the only one in disbelief that New Year’s is just a couple days away? This year seems to have flown by. But I’m embracing 2012′s quick approach. There’s something about a new year that excites me. New beginnings, new goals, new milestones my children will reach, the feeling I get where everything needs to be organized, and of course eating healthier.
In preparation for the New Year I made some festive Party Hats for the kids. I used an old party hat to trace onto some glitter scrapbook paper.
Because the cardstock was so thick stapling it worked the best. I hot glued the garland and then added some string to each side. You could also use elastic.
The garland I found in Walmart’s Christmas clearance for 98 cents. I like it so much I’m thinking of going back tomorrow to get the other colors they had.
Now we like to get pretty wild around these parts so we’ll be doing a whole lot this on New Year’s eve…
Yup, that’s right that Play-Doh kit has 40 accessories in it. It’ll definitely be a night to remember :)
Now check out these fun ideas I found on pinterest…

What are your New Year’s Eve plans? Do you like to go out or stay in? If you have any kid activities planned please share, you know in case the play-doh activity gets too wild :)

Peanut Butter Blossoms

The Christmas Pandora station has been playing pretty much nonstop in our home lately. We’ve been baking all week and still have a few more goodies to make tomorrow. Among all the cookies are one of favorite, Peanut Butter Blossoms. I’ve shared them here before but this time around I used Bakerella’s recipe found here.
1 1/2 c flour
3/4 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup butter, slightly softened
1 c peanut butter
1 c sugar
1 egg
2 tsp vanilla
Hershey’s Kisses
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  • Sift flour, soda and salt with a wire whisk and set aside.
  • Beat butter and peanut butter
  • Add sugar and beat until fluffy.
  • Add egg and vanilla.
  • Add flour mixture and combine.
  • Roll dough into 1 to 1-1/2 inch balls and then roll the balls in sugar to coat.
  • Line your baking sheet with parchment paper and bake cookies for 8-10 minutes. Remove cookies from oven and press your kiss in the center of each cookie. Allow to cool.
We changed things up a bit and added the milk and white chocolate Hershey kisses. You have to try them, they’re delicious.
What are you baking this week? I’d love to see your recipes.

Gift Wrap Ideas

Santa has finally decided to stop procrastinating and deliver some gifts to our home. Of course this meant that Santa had to wrap all the gifts that have been sitting for weeks untouched in the closet. So today Santa turned on some Christmas music, Michael Buble’s Christmas album to be exact, and got to wrapping.
If you’re like me and have been waiting until the last minute to wrap presents then high five for being procrastinator buddies..woohoo! If you’ve read my blog long enough then you know I’m all about creating things inexpensively. So today I want to share with you two easy and inexpensive gift wrap ideas. Also note that I’ve joined the Turquoise and Red bandwagon and have been using that color combo for gift wrap. Gah blogland is there anything you won’t make me like?  :)

For a small gift I made this box using heavy cardstock, double sided table, and bakers twine. (I found the twine for $2 at Michael’s for 6 small spools).
To make a 4×4 box I cut the cardstock into an 8×8 and folded at 2 and 6 inches.
I then cut 4 slits like shown above. Using double sided tape I tucked in the sides.
I forgot to take pictures of the top but it’s the same concept just smaller in size.
At first I only used one piece of twine but I think the double layer is more appealing.

Then I made some felt flowers to embellish this plain craft paper wrapped gift. (You can find a roll of craft paper at the dollar store)

Thanks for stopping by, I hope you’re having a wonderful week filled with many blessings!

Earth’s Best Giveaway

I know I don’t write a lot personal details on here but as an Earth’s Best Blogger I’d like to share with you my experiences with providing my baby and toddler a healthy diet. My hope is to reach out to some of you with little ones and offer and receive advice on maintaining a healthy diet. As you may already know our little one is now five months and recently started baby cereal. We have slowly introduced peas and carrots into the mix and so far he’s a great eater. My daughter was the complete opposite, she just did not like baby food/cereal. Plain and simple. Luckily Zach has been very accepting of rice cereal, peas, and carrots so far.

While we may enjoy baking up sweet concoctions in our household, fruit and veggies are a big part of our diet and it’s important to us that our children understand what a well balanced diet is. My toddler is a pretty good eater and could eat raw spinach, veggies, and carrots all day long. But our problem is that those are the ONLY veggies she will eat and will absolutely not eat them if they’re cooked. While I’m glad she enjoys these I do wish she would expand her palette more. Any ideas on how to get her to eat cooked veggies? Or do you have any recipes to share that I can sneak veggies into? Please share, I’d love for her to try something new.

Now did you know that Earth’s Best Infant Puree Pouches are USDA organic certified and contain at least 25% of a child’s daily value of Zinc, Vitamins A, C& E? Their resealable pouches provide a unique blend of organic fruits and vegetables and are perfect on the go. How would you like to win a sample variety from the Earth’s Best Infant Puree Pouches line? Earth’s Best is generously offering one of you the chance to win.
