Crayon Box Valentines

One of my favorite things about having a die cutting machine is that I can usually whip up small gifts for the kids for every holiday and special events. As I mentioned before my mother always made holidays a big deal for my sisters and I. OK let’s face it, she still gives us small gifts on special holidays. I’m pretty sure I asked my mom to stop when I turned 18 but I don’t think she got the memo. HA! Who am I kidding? I don’t think I’ll be able to stop once my kids turn 18. The thought of them growing up scares me and turns me into one emotional mama so I’m going to pretend they’re going to stay this little awhile longer by creating new memories with activities to do for every holiday as long as possible. With the help of my Silhouette Cameo and Silhouette double-sided adhesive I made the kids Crayon Box Valentines to give them on Thursday.

DIY Crayon Box Valentines

We plan to spend the day making crafts and going on a Valentine scavenger hunt, so I thought the crayons would be a fun gift for them. Its something sweet, simple, and practical. Its also a non-candy Valentine idea that I’m sure I’ll continue to reuse for years to come.

DIY Crayon Box Valentines

If you don’t have a die cutting machine you can use a crayon box as a template to trace onto thick cardstock. Then glue the sides together (you’ll be able to see the left and right side tabs overlapped where they were glued). Also note that the Crayon Box Valentines I made held 8 crayons, not 24 like a standard crayon box. You can find smaller 8 pack crayon boxes or make them with the 24 pack at most stores.

DIY Crayon Box Valentines

1. To make the crayon box valentines cut your box out of cardstock.

2. I then cut various decorative heart shapes out of the Silhouette double-sided adhesive. Again you could buy the double-sided adhesive and trace your shapes or use a punch to cut the shapes out.

3. Remove the top layer and add glitter.

4. Use the brush that comes in the kit to remove the excess glitter.

5. Then glue your tabs together to close your crayon box. Now it’s ready to be filled with colorful crayons!

This is a great non-candy valentine idea that can also be used as a birthday gift or party favors.

Paper Valentine Containers

Easy Valentine's Day Crafts

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and I couldn’t be more excited about the holiday of LOVE. My daughter isn’t in preschool yet but she is also excited about Valentine’s Day. She’s keeps asking when we can go pick out valentine cards. Her best friend moved away this past Fall so she’s looking to sending her some sweet snail mail in the next few weeks. We have some local friends to hand out cards to and I’ve been thinking of cute and easy Valentine’s Day ideas like these paper valentine containers filled with treats.

Easy Valentine's Day Crafts

This past weekend I had the opportunity to attend the Craft & Hobby Association (CHA) trade show. It was such a wonderful experience, filled with mounds of inspiration. It was my first time at the show and I was pleasantly surprised by all the paper products. It was all too much to take in but I took a million pictures for inspiration. I’ve shared a few on instagram but will share them here soon.

Valentine's Day crafts

I saw these paper treat containers in Paper Crafts magazine last year and they called them “paper sour cream containers.” I’m still new to the paper crafting world but I love how easy these are to make. The best part is you don’t need a fancy die cutting machine to make them!

scrapbook paper

sewing machine {optional}

embellishments {twine, stamps, stickers, etc.}

Quick and easy Valentine's Day crafts

To make the paper treat containers cut your paper to 4 x 6 inches.

Paper Sour Cream Containers Tutorial

Create a paper tube roll by gluing the ends together like so..

Once the glue is dried take one end and glue it close (see above picture). I used a sewing machine to close the ends but glue works great too. Then fill with treats, toys, or love notes inside and close the other in in the opposite direction. This way one end is vertical and one end is horizontal. Does that make sense?

Then embellish to your hearts desire! I added washi tape from Michaels and bakers twine from The Twinery. The Happy Valentine’s Day is a dollar stamp from Michaels as well then I used a circle punch to cut it out. The glitter hearts are from Target ($1 stickers) and I adore the small clothespins to hold the tag in place.

Message in a Bottle Valentine

Creative Valentine's Day Ideas

Hey, hey there awesome friends! I’ve been so busy this week getting ready for CHA. Ahhh I’m so excited to share all the details with you. But before I get ahead of myself let me share with you a cute and easy Valentine’s Day gift idea that costs under $5 to make. Oh and guess what? Its from the dollar store! Are you a dollar store fan? It seems to be hit and miss with me. Sometimes I find some pretty cute things to craft with and other times I walk out empty handed. Then there are times when I walk in thinking I’m going in for something specific then come out with a bag full of things I didn’t intend to buy at all. Like this cute Message in a Bottle Valentine!

Creative Valentine's Day Ideas

Seriously how cute is this Valentine idea? While picking up some Styrofoam balls at the dollar store I came across a Glass Message in a Bottle. I thought it was the cutest idea for a Valentine’s day gift! Plus it was only $1, how could you pass that up?

The original was not my style at all but after a little searching in my craft supplies I remade it into a cute pink vinyl heart covered bottle.

Creative Valentine's Day Gift Ideas

There’s pink confetti hearts inside as well as a little love note tied with pink bakers twine for my sweetheart. The pom pom trim and ribbon are from Hobby Lobby and the confetti hearts are from a Lifestyle Crafts die.

Creative Valentine's Day Gift Ideas

I used my die cutting machine to cut half inch size hearts in two different pink colors of vinyl. If you don’t have a cutting machine another great option is to use stickers. You can find all sorts of cute heart stickers for about a dollar everywhere from the craft store to the grocery store. For the note I used scrapbook paper, because you guessed it..there are pink hearts on it! :)
