Cherry Vanilla Float – a twist on the classic soda float recipe made with cherry topping and Dr. Pepper Vanilla Float soda.
With the kids’ home for the next couple months I’ve been thinking of fun ways to keep them busy. In an age where Pinterest brings us millions of ideas at our fingertips, it’s not hard to find inspiration. However, I’ve been trying to think of the things I enjoyed when I was their age. Summer time always brings nostalgic feelings of my childhood and the traditions my mother created for us. I was born in the 80s but I’m a big fan of the 90s era. I still listen to 90s music everyday and search for old memorabilia from my childhood. Recently I had the kids make Rexlace key chains. Does anyone remember those? I hear some people used to call it gimp or boondoggle. Growing up my sisters and I would spend our summer afternoons making more key chains than we knew what to do with. Another favorite memory from my childhood is making soda floats in our backyard. My mother would set up the ingredients on our picnic table and let us pour the soda in, while we watched it foam to the top. With our weather in the low 100s, this seemed like a great memory to recreate with the kids.
We recently picked up the new limited edition Dr. Pepper Vanilla Float and knew we had to give it a try. We are all about finding new ways to change up basic recipes. When I spotted the soda I tried to think of a flavor that would pair well with the vanilla. My daughter suggested cherry and everyone agreed it was a hit. We used cherry topping to drizzle the glass with. The cherry will begin to settle to the bottle, which will mix with the soda once poured in. You can also use cherry juice or cherry syrup, whatever you can find at your local grocery store. The Dr. Pepper Vanilla Float soda can be found at Safeway and Albertson stores.
