How to make sponge bombs – beat summer boredom with this easy DIY water activity. Kids will love soaking and tossing the colorful sponge bombs for hours!
Thank you Popsicle® for sponsoring today’s post. All opinions are my own. Summer is officially here! Last week we had below average temperatures with a nice breeze. This week we’re in the 100’s so we’re trying to find ways to stay cool. The kids could swim all day every day if we let them but sometimes it’s nice to switch things up. With this week marking the official start of summer we celebrated with water activities, made tie-dye shirts and ate popsicles at the end of the day. I mean, who doesn’t love a Popsicle® on a hot summer day? It was definitely a great way to welcome summer and enjoy our favorite summer time treat.
We have this routine in our family where each child takes turns picking out popsicles. My daughter almost always picks out the Firecracker™ pops or whatever girly characters are on the box. This time around it was my sons turn to pick and he went with the new Popsicle® Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles™. We spent the afternoon throwing around water sponge bombs and enjoying Popsicles® in the backyard and had a blast!
How to make Sponge Water Bombs
Here’s a quick tutorial on how to make water bombs Supplies: Colorful sponges Strings/bakers twine Scissors Step one: cut each sponge into three strips (about 1 inch wide). Step two: stack 9 strips together, 3 layers of 3. Tie the string around the sponges, pulling tightly and knot in the middle. Make a double knot just to be safe.
The great thing about these sponge bombs is that they’re durable. The kids can throw them around for hours and at the end of the day after a quick wash they’re still in great shape. It’s a fun summer activity when the kids are bored and it’s hot outside.
