How to make sock bunnies – easy Easter craft idea for kids!
With Easter less than a week away, it was time for me to finish preparing the kids Easter baskets. We are keeping their baskets simple, with a few Spring break craft activities and these adorable little sock bunnies. If you’re looking for a cute and easy handmade gift to add to their Easter basket then this tutorial is just for you! This quick and easy sock bunny tutorial is the perfect last-minute Easter craft that you can make for the kids or with them.
Easter approached rather quickly this year, didn’t it? I think that’s what happens with most holidays now though. As a child you wait and wait for a holiday to come, the excitement making it feel as if it never will. But as an adult, it seems as if they come right after another all too quickly. Or maybe that’s just me? But I’d like to take the week to really enjoy this holiday with the kids, it’s perhaps one of the most important for us. I know sock bunnies do not represent the true meaning of Easter but I do like to mix in a little bunny and egg-coloring fun into the holiday.
DIY Sock Bunny
These little cuties were inspired by the sock bunnies on Spoonful. I actually shared those on here two years ago back when the site was called Family Fun. We are big Family Fun Magazine readers and always enjoy their creative craft ideas for kids. I’ve been receiving the magazine since my oldest was little and every month we try to make at least one craft from the magazine.

Sock Bunny Tutorial
To make sock bunnies you will need:
a small sock
felt
large pom pom
moveable eyes
ribbon
clear rubber bands
rice
How to make a sock bunny {VIDEO TUTORIAL}
Step one
Fill your sock with about a cup of rice, depending on the size of your sock. Tie clear rubber bands twice to create a head, one on the neck and one on top of the head.
Step two
Cut a contrasting piece of felt to create a “belly” for the bunny, glue onto sock using tacky glue or hot glue.
Step three
Glue eyes, teeth (a tiny square piece of felt cut down the middle that resembles teeth), pom pom on the back, and a nose (small rounded triangle piece of felt). Tie a bow around the sock bunny.
Step four
Cut the top of the sock in half to create ears on the sock bunny. Snip off the corners to make the ears slightly rounded.

Brilliant idea!! Thank you so much! Easter is not so close for us yet (Orthodox Christians), but I’m already searching for handmade gift ideas and you just gave the one! Have a happy Easter holiday! And, by the way, congrats on your beautiful blog! :)

That is just the cutest idea! Love it.. I gotta go buy some socks now :)
Thank you for the pattern, they are so cute! kisses
Great idea!! The one that I got when I was a kid was in a fabric bag with only a head sticking out. I am not sure that I ever understood why but I carried it everywhere with me for at least a few days. I probably still have it somewhere. I am going to have to look :) This might be something to do with the old socks that I have of my sons. Did you use kids sized ones or adults?
This is great! I love this! It’s exciting to see a cloth craft that is so adorable that doesn’t need you to sew it! Pinning! Stopping by from Lil Luna’s link party.

FIRST TIME I’VE SEEN THIS AND I LOVE DOING CRAFTS AND DONATING TO NEEDY KIDS AT CHRISTMAS THANKS FOR THE IDEAS.
Little ones can easily switch out their personal masterpieces when you hang clipboards in a square or rectangular grid.
Has anyone tried this with tacky glue? I’ve made a similar craft like this before (they were snowmen instead of bunnies) but we used hot glue and of course that worked well. I’ve never used tacky glue on fabric before and wonder how well it sticks or how quickly it dries. Wanting to plan this as a craft for senior citizens and it would be much easier to use tacky glue if possible.
Thank you for this. So many socks and stuffing left over from socl snowmen!
How do you get the ears to stand up?
super idea. Being a Grandmother of two, my thoughts are to substitute rice for perhaps large cotton balls. Just when/if the rubber bands do break rice is not all over
