Easy DIY Gift bow – how to make a gift bow with a Bowdabra.
During the month of January we celebrate 7 birthdays in our family. Between family members and close friends that are like family we have a month full of parties and a whole lot of gift giving. While my husband likes to throw gifts in a bag and write a name on it with a Sharpie I tend to love wrapping gifts. I like any excuse to add a big bow to gift packages. From birthdays to the holidays, I’m always excited to pull out some ribbon and tie a beautiful on top!
Bowdabra Bow Making Tool
I recently tried out the Bowdabra bow making tool and now I can’t see myself making a bow without it! The Bowdabra makes it easy to whip up a big, bouncy bow in just a few minutes.
DIY Bows
Supplies:
- Bowdabra
- 2 inch wide wired ribbon
- bow wire
The Bowdabra tool came with a thin wired string that makes it easy to secure your bow in place. To make a bow take a piece of the string and fold it in half. You want it long enough to reach the width of the Bowdabra tool.
Insert the string between the slits of the tool and start adding your ribbon inside. If you’re using single sided ribbon lay your ribbon face down then twist on the second loop. Repeat this process until you’ve made all of the loops.
I like to make 6 loops (3 on each side) then one smaller loop for the center.
Once your loops are made press the wand into the Bowdabra tool and cinch the ribbon together. Then tie the wired string through the loop and pull tightly. I like to tie it 1-2 more times to ensure the bow is tied in place correctly.
Then snip off the extra string and fluff out the ribbon loops. I seriously adore this tool! It’s made it easy for me to whip up bows in a hurry and I may or may not have gotten carried away with my ribbon stash. I also may or may not have a bag full of bows waiting to be added to gift boxes. My husband also may or may not think I’m crazy but I consider it being prepared for all the gift giving we’ll be doing this month. I also think my planning will hopefully keep him from pulling out the Sharpie and looking for a gift tag to match the bow instead. :)
Thanks for stopping by!
