Barbie and the Secret Door Party
Barbie and the Secret Door PartyGrowing up I’d ask  for a Barbie to add to my collection for every birthday and Christmas. I had the life-size Barbie convertible that I would tote my Barbies along for a ride in. I also had a Barbie wardrobe container you could carry and would open to hold clothing and accessories in what looked like a real life closet. It was a dream come true for a 7 year old. Want to know what happened to all of that? They went to my daughter. I used to think my mom was crazy for wanting to keep my old dolls and toys growing up, now I’m happy to see her pass them on to my daughter. Madi is really enjoying growing her collection and playing with my “vintage” dolls. Since she loves Barbie toys so much we had a Barbie birthday party for her in August. Recently we also had the opportunity to host a small Barbie and the Secret Door party. We invited a couple of Madi’s cousins for a fun movie night and cookie decorating party. The girls were thrilled about watching the new Barbie movie and decorating sugar cookies.

Barbie and the Secret Door is about a shy princess named Alexa who discovers a secret door in her kingdom’s garden. Through the door she discovers a magical land. The theme of the movie encourages the importance of friendships and courage as Alexa learns how to stand up and defend her friends against the kingdom’s ruler, Malucia. As the shy princess finds that she has magical powers in the new kingdom she uses them to help her friends. The girls loved the movie and my niece knew every word to the Barbie song “I’ve got Magic.” They sang the song all night long while playing with their Barbies.

Cookie Decorating Party - SprinklesI noticed the movie was filled with beautiful flowers, dresses, and accessories. Keeping the vivid colors in mind I thought the kids would like to decorate cookies with pink frosting and sprinkles. They were a big hit! To make things easy I used sturdy cupcake holders for the sprinkles.

Barbie Party FavorsFor the decor I used colorful gum balls in glass vases from Michaels and giant paper flowers made with my Cricut machine.

What a fun party!! I gave my daughters my Barbie stuff from when I was a little girl. I remember having Barbie parties with my girls…sigh….enjoy every minute. Now that my girls are 20 & 17 there are no more Barbie parties, but we do still have old movie night parties with cookie dough :)
