Decorate mason jars with broken seashells to create a beautiful beach inspired mason jar to use as wedding vases or luminaries.

DIY Beach Mason Jar

Beach Mason Jar

This beach inspired mason jar craft is perfect for a beach wedding, Summer tablescape, or mantle. Everyone Summer I’m inspired to decorate my home with small touches of beach decor. A few years back I added handmade beach decor in one of our bathrooms that I occasionally still bring out. Back then I made a broken seashell candle and frame that inspired these beachy mason jars. When I found this faux broken seashell/rock vase filler at Michaels I knew it would pair beautifully with mason jars.

Supplies:

  • Mason jar
  • Americana Decou-Page
  • Broken seashells or faux rock vase filler
  • Brush
  • Twine
  • Flameless tea light candles
  • painters tape (optional)

DIY Seashell Mason Jar

  • To make the jars apply a generous amount of decoupage glue on the mason jar, working in sections.
  • Allow glue to fully dry before turning to another section or the rocks may slide off. It takes about 20-30 minutes for each section to dry. Another tip is to make sure you have a single layer of the shells so that they adhere to the jar well.
  • Once the mason jars are dry, tie twine around the mouth of the jar and add a tea light inside.

I made two versions of this craft, one fully covered with the broken seashells and one partially covered. To make the partially covered jar I used painters tape to section off the part that I wanted exposed. This isn’t necessary but it helped make sure I had an even line.

I have to say that I was really impressed with how well the American decoupage glue held the shells in place. Plus I like that it’s see through so you can see glimmers of light peeking through the shells.

This is such a pretty idea. So unique and seems fairly easy to do. I featured it this week in my Saturday Morning Coffee Cafe post. Have a great weekend!
