Buffalo Check Christmas Tree – Michaels Makers Dream Tree Challenge.
Hello, friends. Now that Halloween has passed it’s time to reveal this year’s Michaels Dream Tree. I’m excited and grateful to be part of the Michaels Dream Tree Challenge again. For years I’ve followed some of my fellow blogging friends create beautiful trees for the challenge and I couldn’t be more excited to participate for the second year in a row. This year I wanted to step out of my comfort zone and use more reds in my Christmas décor. I typically decorate with neutral colors in my home and hardly ever use the color red. When I started thinking of a Christmas tree theme I knew I wanted buffalo check to be a prominent feature on the tree. I naturally wanted to gear towards black and white check but I decided to step out of my comfort zone by using red and black buffalo check and I’m so glad I did. I really like how the red pops against the snowy branches, giving it a Christmas cabin feel.
My vision for this year’s Christmas tree was a flocked tree that looked like it had fresh fallen snow. However, instead of flocking the tree I used flocked stems from Michaels to fill the tree with. It gives an appearance of a fuller tree and adds the snowy branches without making it permanent.
One of the things I love about Michaels is that they always have great DIY ornament supplies. This year they have a collection of chalkboard ornaments that you can write on or use the hand lettered shapes to glue on the chalkboard. For someone who doesn’t have the best penmanship, this is a great way to add faux chalkboard ornaments to our tree.
The fur accents like the stockings and fur basket fit perfectly with my cabin inspired Christmas tree. It makes me wish we lived in an area where it snowed, but I think my tree will allow me to pretend that we do.
I have a few DIY ornament tutorials that I will share over the next couple weeks. Some will be really easy using supplies from Michaels and I’ll have buffalo check printables to share with you soon!

Beautiful tree !!
I want your tree! ;) Beautiful!
Your tree is beautiful! Thanks for hosting the Christmas tree link party– so many great ideas!
This is so incredibly gorgeous! Thank you for all your tips!! You’ve inspired me to make a similar tree! With Michael’s just a few miles from my house, I’ve made lots of trips there the past few days! :-) By the way, I was wondering where you found the two cute little white trees on the cabinet beside your tree. I’d love to have a couple for my mantle. Thanks!!
