If you’re a fan of the berry basket trend you’re going to love this cute craft I’m sharing today! Berry baskets are great for gift giving but did you know they also make a great pincushion? Yes, a berry basket pincushion that’s perfect for your sewing table or to give to a friend. With a few supplies and 10 minutes to spare you’ll have an adorable pincushion ready for all your sewing projects.

This week I dusted off my sewing machine and began thinking of fun Summer outfits to make for the little miss. She was almost one when hubby gave me the sewing machine as a birthday gift and I remember make her a new dress or skirt everyday the two weeks leading up to her birthday. To this day she still has every single one of those skirts. Do they fit her? Absolutely not! Does she mind? Absolutely not! It’s a good thing they were made with an elastic waist because she loves wearing them over her clothes everyday…don’t worry I don’t let her go out in public like that. ;)

Now that she’s far outgrown those clothes I’ve been meaning to make her some new dress up clothes. While going through my fabric and sewing supplies I realized I don’t have a pincushion. So naturally I had to fix that asap! I was inspired to make this berry basket pincushion by Simply Handmade Sewing Magazine. I took a peek at it while at Barnes & Noble and spotted an adorable berry basket pincushion with a spool attached to the bottom. Since I picked up two  packages of berry baskets at the QBM at Snap I knew this would be a fun project to make.

How to make a pin cushion

Supplies:

  • 12 x 12 inch piece of fabric
  • pleated ribbon or trim
  • berry basket
  • stuffing
  • hot glue

DIY berry basket pincushion tutorial

  • Place your stuffing inside of the fabric, folding it into a square. Use glue to keep the square folded in place.
  • Glue the stuffed fabric into the berry basket. Tip: I only applied glue to the top part of the basket so that you couldn’t see any glue through the holes.
  • Add a decorative trim or pleated ribbon to the rim of the basket to finish the look.

I could make these little pincushions all day long! They’re so cute and would be great to give in a gift basket for a friend who loves to sew.

I think this is so cute. I’m looking for some easy beginner sewing projects for my 6 year old girl. She would love this, especially since we will be reusing something. My girls are very resourceful, as are most children. :) I found you on the Craftionary link-up. I posted a couple of things. I’d love for you to visit my little blog if you have time.
Happy Memorial Day Weekend!

This is, hand down, the greatest pin cushion I have ever seen and I want one SO bad! Any ideas where to get berry baskets that aren’t full of berries?

(I found you on See Vanessa Craft and I’m a new follower! I hope you’ll visit my blog and return the favor)
