DIY Peppermint Bath Salts – layered red and white peppermint essential oil infused bath salts.

DIY Peppermint Bath Salts

Peppermint Bath Salts

Hi crafty friends! Only 10 days until Christmas Eve! Can you believe how fast this month has gone by? I remember my family and friends thinking I was crazy working on my Michaels Dream Tree back in October. Now we’re counting down the days until Christmas and soon another year will begin. This has been such a wonderful holiday season for us, and I’m not quite ready to let it go. We have a bucket list full of holiday activities that we haven’t checked off and of course I still have my gift list to finish. Like I recently mentioned, I’m one of those people who are frantically searching the mall a few days before Christmas for last-minute gifts. But not this year, I’m determined to finish my shopping and gift-making in the next few days. I still have a few handmade gifts to share and today I have another homemade spa gift idea to share with you. Peppermint bath salts make a wonderful Christmas gift for friends or co-workers.

Peppermint Bath Salts Recipe

This peppermint bath salt recipe is made with only 4 ingredients (plus red food coloring if you prefer) and makes about 6 cups of bath salts. Depending on the size of your jars, you can make about 4-6 jars to give as Christmas gifts. The recipe is an easy combination of Epsom salt, sea salt, and baking soda. Add peppermint extract and you have a relaxing and refreshing bath salts gift.

How to make peppermint bath salts

Supplies:

3 cups Epsom Salt
2 cups Sea Salt
1 cup baking soda
Peppermint Oil
Red Food Color (optional)

  • In a large bowl combine epsom salt, sea salt and baking soda.
  • Add in peppermint oil and stir or whisk to distribute evenly. I use about 15-20 drops of peppermint oil. Add more or less depending on your preference.
  • Divide bath salts in half. Use a separate bowl to color bath salts with 4-6 drops of red food coloring.
  • Layer bath salts in jars. I used about two heaping tablespoons per layer and pressed the salts down before adding a new layer.

Will the food coloring die your bathtub or skin?

Hi Seana, no it should easily wash away. As long as you don’t use too much coloring it’ll be perfectly fine.

These are so beautiful!! I love this, I’m thinking of doing these this year as gifts. Quick question though, did you use coarse or fine ground sea salt and where did you get that cute black tag from!? :)

I think these are great. Was just wondering how long they last? I’m assuming there’s no “best-before” date but wanted to check just in case.

Can you use regular sea salt or do you have to purchase a certain kind of sea salt?
