Maui Vacation Tips: where to stayLast fall my husband and I took a trip to Hawaii to celebrate our 10-year anniversary. Selecting an island to visit was no easy feat. We contemplated the pros of each Hawaiian island, and really you can’t go wrong with any of them, but eventually decided on Maui. We stayed for 7 nights and spent the entire week exploring every part of the island we could. If you follow me on Instagram or Snapchat, you often see photos and live videos of our travels. Today I’m sharing the first part of our trip to Hawaii and discussing the most commonly asked question – where did we stay. We’ve had several friends and family members ask about our hotel and today I’d like to share our experience with you.
When it comes to selecting a hotel I tend to go with trusted brands that I’m familiar with and have had great experience with in the past. We heard wonderful things about the Westin Maui Resort & Spa in Ka’anapali and felt it would provide a great resort-like experience for our vacation. I can’t recommend this hotel enough. The entire hotel is absolutely beautiful! From the lobby, to the room, the spectacular pools and even the gym with a view of the pool area and ocean.
Upon arriving, the hotel staff were very welcoming and the concierge upgraded our ocean view room to a premium ocean room after discovering it was our anniversary. It was incredibly kind and we were grateful for their generosity. In addition, they sent chocolate and wine to our room to celebrate. It was very unexpected but it made our experience that much better. This was the view from our room…The pools are what dreams are made of! Every day we were there I kept thinking about how much the kids would enjoy the water slides. The pools are divided so that you can enjoy a family pool or adults only pool area. There’s even a hidden jacuzzi through a waterfall.

The resort wildlife was another exciting part of the experience. You can find flamingos, parrots, turtles and koi fish right in front of the lobby as you walk to the pool area.
We booked our trip through Costco and were provided a daily breakfast buffet. The buffet is incredible! I didn’t get a picture but trust me when I say you have every breakfast food you could possibly think of provided to you. It even had a great selection of gluten-free and vegetarian options. In addition to the buffet we often snacked at the pool area during the day. The nachos were my favorite!
The hotel is located near Black Rock, a popular snorkeling site. Every day we’d walk down the beach to Black Rock for snorkeling and we even jumped off the rock a few times. For someone afraid heights, like myself, it was terrifying but exhilarating at the same time.On our last night in Maui we had dinner at the Relish Oceanside restaurant. Our table was a few feet away from the sand and the sunset views were incredible. I will never forget the beautiful pink and orange sky as we reminisced about the past 10 years together. It was truly a wonderful trip and I can’t wait to go back with the kids next summer.
I’ll be back soon to share some of my favorite things to eat in Maui!
Note: we paid for the entire trip ourselves, we just love this hotel and think you would too! All opinions are my own.
