Prior to the days of having an iPhone app for every kind of game imaginable and even before spending countless hours playing snake on my first cell phone, my weekends were filled with board game nights with family. My younger sister and I were the queens of board games. While the rest of the family played a game or two, my sister and I would stay up all night on the weekends to play our favorite board games. As we I got older those games were played less and less. With the introduction of iPhones and other tech gadgets, game nights don’t occur in our home as much as they did during my childhood. My oldest now has his own cell phone and iPod, nearly 10 years before I received my first phone. At his age the majority of entrainment is derived from some sort of tech gadget or online application. While we still have our cherished family movie nights every week, I miss the memories of playing a board game. Here’s where our Playstation comes into play. We all know kids enjoy playing video games, so why not play games the whole family can enjoy? We recently discovered the Hasbro Ubisoft Game Channel that includes some of our favorite games like Monopoly and Trivial Pursuit. We then set out to have a family game night with the Monopoly Family Fun Pack for PS4.
Over the years I’ve shared a few family movie night party displays I made for the kids. They’re usually small with a fun theme involved. I wanted to do the same for our game night with a Monopoly party theme. The kids love it when I surprise them with party displays! It’s exciting for the kids to have popcorn from cute containers rather than a bowl, or wrapped treat boxes. I always use supplies I already have on hand so it’s really a win-win, the kids have fun and I downsize my ever-growing craft supplies. So without further ado here’s the mini Monopoly party display I made for our family game night.
I used an old Monopoly game as the background/centerpiece of our display. Want to know a secret? We are horrible at keeping game board pieces in the box, especially since the little guy enjoys playing with them. We had this monopoly game board that’s missing about half the money and a few pieces, sitting in a closet unused. Another reason we like video games so much, there’s no need to look for missing pieces in the kids rooms when it’s time to play.
I thought it would be fun to paint paper mache letters black for the infamous GO on the game board. I also created a monopoly money banner. I picked up this green polka dot banner last month for Christmas but never got around to using it, I’m so glad I found a new use for it.
I also used play money to wrap around the popcorn boxes and lemonade bottles.
Here’s why our family enjoyed the Monopoly Family Fun Pack:
It’s a video game! Our kids love video games and there’s no need to look for missing pieces when it’s time to play. This game is really convenient and has several playing options, including playing online.
Play up to 6 players.
Personalize your game board- you can name the properties and design the game board.
Speed Die option for a faster game – we all know that the classic Monopoly game could go on for hours, this new speed die makes things quicker for each player to have a turn.
Overall we were really impressed with the new Monopolgy video game. We were able to finish a game quicker and it was really easy for the younger kids to get involved. We plan to play a lot more over the holiday break.
What are some of you family’s favorite games? I’d love to hear what games your kids enjoy!
