When my first child was born I vowed to memory keep as much as possible. Growing up I enjoyed writing in a journal, scrapbooking, and keeping memory boxes of my favorite things. I wanted to incorporate that into my journey as a mother as I watched my children grow over the years. Three kids later my hopes for keeping regularly updated scrapbooks haven’t gone as planned. I do however photograph every moment I can and keep memory boxes for each child. One of my favorite traditions is to ask each child what they want to be when they grow up and write their answers in a journal. Over the past 12 years I’ve had every answer from wanting to be Spiderman to a doctor and even an engineer. I always enjoy hearing their answers and seeing how they change over the years.
I don’t know if your children do the same but my kids love watching YouTube videos, especially toy videos. I thought this was such an odd thing to do but they really enjoy them. A few months ago my daughter watched a video that featured the Barbie optometrist play set. It became all she would talk about! She recently saved up enough to buy the set and she’s played with it every day. At the moment becoming an optometrist has become her dream job. I love that a brand that’s been around for years can encourage young girls to imagine the possibilities of their dream job. I grew up playing with Barbie dolls and over the years have watched my daughter enjoy doing the same.
Barbie has been inspiring girls to be whatever they want to be for over 50 years. Their initiative to “Champion a world where all girls pursue their limitless potential” is inspiring to me as mother. Their goal is to encourage girls to imagine the possibilities and we as parents can help our daughters believe in themselves and support their dreams.
If you’re a parent please watch the Imagine The Possibilities video, I love the message and real reactions captured by the hidden cameras. It shows that through imaginative play, girls can become anything they want to be.
If you’d like to record your child’s dream job throughout their childhood, I’ve created a printable for you. You can download their pink or blue font time capsule printable below.
