How to make a white pumpkin topiary with moss and pinecones.
Hey crafty friends! I’m back with another Michaels Makers project. This month we’re talking about Fall Decor. You guys, have you seen all the cute Fall Market decor at Michaels? I couldn’t wait to start decorating our front porch with pumpkins and garlands. If you’ve read a few tutorials around here you know that I love simplicity when it comes to decor. When I had the idea to make this white pumpkin topiary I bought a bag full of supplies to work with. As I started putting the pumpkin topiary together I realized I liked the simple look with only a few decorations. I had two more garlands, pinecones, burlap leaves, and a bow to go on top but ended up leaving those out. I have plans to make this into a three tier pumpkin topiary for halloween, so stay tuned in the next few weeks for that tutorial!
DIY Pumpkin Topiary
Supplies:
White Faux Pumpkin
black urn
circle styrofoam plate
moss
Garland
dowel
pinecones
hot glue
knife
Everything, except the urn, is from Michaels. The white garland is from last year but they have a great assortment of fall garlands available right now.
Step one: I was lucky to have an urn that had a place to add a dowel, if you can’t find something similar you can glue the syrofoam directly onto the urn. The dowel provides added support to keep the pumpkin from tipping over. Begin by gluing moss around the edge of the stryofoam circle. Use caution when pressing the moss onto the styrofoam as the glue may seep through.
Step two: cut a hole on the bottom of the pumpkin big enough to fit the dowel. You can use a utility knife or scissors to do this. I gently pressed the tip of my scissors and it was very easy to cut though to make the hole.
Step three: Place your styrofoam plate (with a hole for the dowel in the center) on top of the urn then your pumpkin. At this point make sure to add moss over any areas the pumpkin didn’t cover. Arrange the garland and glue pinecones on top of the moss.
Love it!! The white pumpkins really make it look elegant! Love it!!
