Christmas OREO Balls
Speaking of hot chocolate, this dessert recipe is inspired by my love for holiday mugs and trying new hot cocoa recipes every year. I decided to turn two of my favorite things into a bite-size dessert.
Making OREO balls is simple and can be made ahead if you’re preparing for a holiday party or to give as a neighbor gift. To make the base you only need three ingredients:
- OREO cookies
- Cream cheese softened at room temperature
- Melting chocolate
To make the OREO ball recipe you will need to crush the OREO cookies into fine crumbs. Then stir in the cream cheese until fully incorporated. Use a cookie scoop to create uniform size treats that will be about 1 inch big. For this recipe, we will slightly roll the ball into a cylinder shape that resembles a cup.
Hot Cocoa Mug OREO Balls
- OREO cookies
- Cream cheese
- White and dark chocolate
- Mini marshmallows
- Sprinkles
- Pretzel
Decorating OREO Balls
- Â Once the mug shape is formed, dip the broken pretzel piece into white chocolate and press into the side of the OREO ball. Tip: use a small knife to cut a small slice before pressing the pretzel inside. Freeze for 15 minutes.
- Hold the mug by the pretzel handle and carefully dip into melted white chocolate. Allow the excess chocolate to pour off before pressing a candy decoration on the front. Place on a parchment-covered baking sheet. Refrigerate for a few minutes until chocolate hardens.
- Â Decorate the top with melted dark chocolate and miniature marshmallows.
- Cover and refrigerate until ready to serve

Tips and tricks for making Christmas OREO balls.
- Allow the OREO and cream cheese mixture to firm up in the freezer before forming the shape. When dipping into the melting chocolate if you notice OREO crumbs falling into the melted chocolate, place back in the freezer for a few minutes to firm back up.
- Warm the dipping chocolate as need so that it’s easier to quickly cover your OREO balls.
- Add the decorations quickly! You will want to work one at a time to ensure the chocolate doesn’t harden before you can add the candy decoration to the front. This applies to the chocolate and marshmallows as well.
