How to make a Halloween candy jar made out of a terra cotta pot, saucer, a glass bowl and wooden knob. Perfect for decorating and displaying your favorite Halloween treats!
A little over 6 years ago I started this blog in hopes of updating family and friends on our family life. Some of my first blog posts were “Hey guys, we went to the park today!” followed by a series of pictures. I probably had 10 readers back then and they were definitely all related to me. About a month into it I shared a Halloween candy jar that I made. I didn’t even realize craft blogs existed at the time so I was surprised when people, outside of my family started commenting on the post. Recently someone shared the post, which let me tell you, has about 5 sentences and two really sad pictures. HA! I’ve had a lot of questions on it so I thought I would create a new step-by-step tutorial.

DIY Halloween Candy Jar

Supplies:

  • 6 inch terra cotta pot
  • terra cotta saucer
  • wooden knob
  • paint
  • ribbon
  • stickers, vinyl, etc. for decorating

Step one: paint outside of the terra cotta pot, saucer and knob. You can use regular craft paint or spray paint (I’m using a gloss spray paint). Make sure you don’t paint the inside of the lid! Your candy will be exposed to the bottom of the lid so keep it safe by taping it off if necessary. Make sure paint is completely dry before moving on to step two.

Place a heavy book on top and let dry for at least 8 hours.

I added dimensional glitter spider stickers the grey candy jar and polka dot ribbon around the center.

This is so cute!

Suzanne Gouette – I had to purchase the clay pot and saucer separately. I’ve never seen them sold in sets. Hope that helps.

What type of glass jar? I hope I am not missing it, but I’ve read the post a few times and don’t see info on the jar listed.

Hi Danielle, I agree – they make lovely gifts! You can find the jars at most craft stores and the dollar store. Pick out a terra cotta pot that matches the size of the jar and you can use the saucer for the lid. Hope that helps!
