I’m back today with another Halloween project, hopefully you’re not getting tired of them because I have plenty of ideas to share with you this month! Today I’m sharing with you how to make Halloween tags and coffin treats using RIT Dye.

Rit Dye

These Halloween tags are perfect for Halloween gifts and the coffin is a great not-so-spooky teachers gift idea.

Rit Dye
I’ll admit I was a little nervous using RIT Dye for the first time. I wasn’t sure what to expect and didn’t want my project to turn into a craft fail. Unfortunately my original idea did turn into a fail. I’m going to try to revamp it and show you the before/after pictures later.  Once I switched gears I was pleasantly surprised at how easy RIT dye is to use.

For this project I used unfinished wood found at Michaels. I simply mixed each dye color with HOT water in a bowl for the coffin and cups for the tags. I used about 4  tablespoons of dye for the coffin and 2 tablespoons for the tags. I allowed them to soak in the dye for about 5 minutes, the longer you leave them in the darker the color will be. Oh and don’t forget to use gloves!

Once I was happy with the color I used a paper plate for them to dry on. Then using my Silhouette I added vinyl, bakers twine, and ribbon.

Rit Dye

I’m happy with the way the Halloween Tags and coffin turned out! I’m telling, you my previous project was a major fail, you’ll probably laugh when I show it to you. :)

They looks great! I love the aged look the dye gives it–much better than paint.

Oh my- I love how that turned out. I understand the apprehension. I have had a bottle of Rit in my cabinet for years- too afraid to use it. But this has actually sparked all sorts of ideas for me. Thanks!!! I’m going to just jump out of the fear & do it.

These are so cool, I would have never thought to use the RIT to dye wood.

If you get a chance I would love for you to come link up at my Halloween Edition Pin Party, it’s open all month long.

What fun Halloween accents to make! I really love the colors the dye makes on that kind of wood. These are so my Halloween style. Not too scary for me!
