Back to school is right around the corner and its time to start thinking about teacher gift ideas! Here’s a quick project that uses a recycled tin can to create a festive crayon pencil vase for a special teacher in your child’s life.

Gifts for teachers - crayon pencil vase

I recently askedon my facebook page when school started and many said in the next week or two. My kids have a few more weeks but I’m already thinking of back to school ideas and teacher gifts! Over the weekend the kids and I made several back to school crafts that we will share with you soon! Today I’m sharing a quick and easy crayon vase to hold pencils, pens, or other school supplies in.

Crayon Pencil Vase

  • a small can or jar
  • double sided tape
  • crayons
  • a rubber band
  • ribbon/twine

teacher gifts

  • Add double sided tape to the center of the can. I used American Crafts red tape, which has a really strong hold and is perfect for a project like this.

crayon vase

  • Place crayons around the can – I used 30 crayons to cover the entire can.

crayon vase

  • Wrap a rubber band around the crayons for extra support.

teacher gifts: crayon vase

  • Add ribbon and twine to cover the rubber band.

How cute is that alphabet ribbon? I love the chalkboard theme print!

Are you ready for school to begin or still cherishing the fun Summer days?

I love it!! With my oldest starting kindergarten this year I want to give his teacher a little something. This paired with a Starbucks gift card would be perfect!

Do you think that hot glue would melt the crayons? I might try hot glue if I add this to my projects to do this summer :)

I made a crayon wreath for my daughter’s kinder teacher and used a hot glue gun and it worked fine… The double sided tape seems less messy though!

I love your school themed vase, it is super cute to hold pencils. Your step by step tutorial makes it sound simple enough to complete as a gifts, and to keep one at home for homework pencils. ;o)

This is great! Instead of pencils, I’m going to put a flower bouquet in it.
