Spray painted wicker basket

A few weeks ago I came across a wicker basket for $1 at my local grocery store. It was rather plain and boring, which is probably why it was $1. I knew it would be perfect for holding craft supplies in but it definitely need a little tlc. I used my purple fall wreath from last year as inspiration for this wicker basket makeover. I just love the dark purple and burlap combo!

I began by covering it with primer. This was my first time painting a wicker basket so I’m not sure what the norm is but I used almost an entire can of Krylon primer. Maybe I’m just OCD and it didn’t need that much but I wanted to make sure it was fully covered. After priming it I used Rustoleum spray enamel in antique white. I’m pretty sure this is my new favorite spray paint! Am I late to the game? Have people been using this spray paint for awhile and I’m just now discovering it? Well, it’s awesome and I’m now looking for reasons to use it again.

Burlap Basket

Anyways, so I took a 4 inch wide piece of burlap, folded it in half and sewed one of the sides together. You could just cut a 2inch piece of burlap but I like it folded. To finish it off I hot glued the burlap and purple rosettes on top. I’m so happy with the way it turned out. It makes me wish I hadn’t gotten rid of my old wicker baskets, I could have pretty baskets all over the house!

Spray Painting Wicker

Now are you ready for some Halloween ideas? Or is it too early? I’m dying to start sharing a few ideas with you. Oh and stay tuned because next week is going to be AWESOME. More details on that coming up, but get ready for some fun things happening around here! ;)

Great upcycle. I’ve got lots of plain wicker baskets around that I might just have to give a makeover too!

What a cute way to turn a boring basket into something cute & personal. Love the purple too! Can’t beat the $1 price tag either.
