How to make glitter mason jar teacher gifts – number 2 pencil and apple mason jars!
Today I have another back to school teacher gift idea to share with you! These glitter mason jar teacher gifts are really easy to make and are perfect for filling with school supplies like pens and pencils.
One of my all-time favorite brands is Martha Stewart Crafts. I grew up watching Martha Stewart’s show every morning and I think it played a big part in why I enjoyed creating during my childhood. I have always admired her brand and the creative ideas she would share on her show. You can only imagine my excitement when I partnered with her company for blogging opportunities and to be part of Martha’s Circle. So when Michaels asked the #MichaelsMakers to create a project using products from our favorite brand, Martha Stewart Crafts was my first choice. It’s a brand that encourages creativity and I couldn’t be happier to share a project with you today. So which craft supply did I choose? Glitter! I truly believe they make the best glitter in a wide variety of colors. You can find all of the supplies (besides the glue) that I used at Michaels. Unfortunately Michaels doesn’t sell my all-time favorite glitter glue but I’ve linked an Amazon affiliate link to where I buy mine.
Teacher Appreciation Mason Jar Gifts
Supplies:
- Mason jar
- Martha Stewart Glitter in lemon drop & garnet
- Americana multi-surface paint
- Beacon Glitter It
- Optional: stickers and green cardstock
Step one: pour glittering glue inside the jar and seal with lid Carefully swirl the glue around, try not to shake it so that you won’t get air bubbles. You can read my glitter ornaments tutorial to see why I love this glue so much! It’s as thin as water and has great coverage – it’s a must-have for the holidays!
Step two: pour glue back into glue bottle and add glitter inside the jar. Swirl to evenly coat jar. Allow glue to dry for at least an hour.
Step three: paint mason jar lid and add embellishments. For the pencil mason jar I used stickers letters and the number 2. I originally added Thickers (picture above) which looked great but didn’t hold up well. So I went back to Michaels for flat alphabet stickers and these have held up really well. For the apple mason jar I used twine to hold paper leaves I hand cut.

Have got to make those jars for myself, no teacher to make for anymore. Maybe make couple more for youngest grand daughter who is only one of 6 grand kids who is artistically inclined. She’s been doing some oil painting lately, pretty darned good. After going thru all Crayola products on sale I found a few I’d like to get her.
She was elected class president for her sophomore year so would like to congratulate her by buying her few things for her art.
For last few months everything has been about her sister whom is going to college on a very nice scholarship. Know she’ll sure miss her sister who’ll be going to San Rafael, CA to Dominican University.
Your jars are so pretty, love the apple idea and yellow one can be made into lemon. Color of glitters are so pretty, awesome idea to jazz up jars for holding pencils, pens, whatever.
Our kids here start school tomorrow, can you imagine? Girls and I haven’t even gotten to go to lake all summer and now it’s too late as sister leaves around middle of month and little sister will be in school all week. I used to take them to lake with me almost every day when they were younger and I worked at town newspaper part time. I’d get off at 12:30, have my lake stuff in car, go pick them up and off we’d go, had so much fun. Glad we have those memories. They’ve grown up much too quickly. So glad we lived close so we could go to lake as much as we did.
Have great time with rest of summer. Love your blog. Happy week.
So I loved this so much but Halloween is right around the corner so I made a pumpkin with orange glitter, and it turned out so cute! You could really do any color combo and it will look great! Now to figure out what to put inside the jar to give to the teachers! Any ideas??
I was a teacher and I have a few ideas that teachers love. Highlighters, Expo markers, Sharpie ink pens or markers, Poster Paper (no bleed) Sharpie markers, and cool pencils are just a few ideas.
Love these jars so much! The glitter is awesome! holly :)
For the glitter mason jar pencil holders what size jar did you use? I can only find the smooth side mason jars (it looks like that’s what you used) in quart size…Thanks!

Fter you coat the jar with the glitter and let it dry what do you put on top of it to keep the glitter from chipping when you put pencils or pens in the jar?

Will I need all the glitter or can I purchase her 24 pk so I can get all of the colors for other projects
What color paint did you use for the lid part of the No. 2 pencil jars?
Hi! Love these jars! So cute!! Was wondering what you did, if anything, to keep the glitter from scrapping off as pens/pencils are put in/taken out of the jar?
I was wondering the same thing! I just made them but I am afraid pencils will scrape off all of the glitter before I even get them to the teachers.
