DIY lip scrub – exfoliate and moisturize dry lips with this homemade lemon lip scrub.Â
Over the last few months I’ve become sort of obsessed with MAC lipstick. I know, I know I’m years late to bandwagon. I’m usually a nude lip gloss kinda girl but I’m slowly building my confidence in color and my lipstick collection with darker hues. With the holidays it was easy to pair an outfit with bright red lipstick or a dark cranberry-plum color. But wearing lipstick has made one thing visibly noticeable – dry lips! During the cold, winter months my lips become dry and start to flake. It’s not a pretty sight, especially if you’re wearing lipstick. I wanted my lips to look and feel smooth, especially when I’m wearing lipstick. Therefore I’ve started using a DIY lip scrub to help exfoliate dry lips and bring moisture back in. This easy homemade lemon lip scrub smells amazing and helps lips feel silky smooth.
This lip scrub is made with honey, jojoba oil, sugar and lemon essential oil. I recently started using jojoba oil in my skin and hair beauty routine and it’s made an amazing difference. Jojoba oil is one of the best oils out there. The fatty acids in the oil help lock in moisture and revitalize dry skin and hair. I have a few DIY beauty tutorials coming up in the next few weeks using jojoba oil that I can’t wait to share. The rough texture of the sugar will exfoliate your lips while the jojoba oil and honey help bring back moisture. The lemon essential oil provides a refreshing scent, one that I use in the majority of my scrubs and hair masks. I’m including Amazon affiliate links below to where you can find each product used in this tutorial. The recipe makes 4 small containers of lip scrub. DIY Lemon Lip Scrub
Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon Jojoba oil
- 1 teaspoon raw honey
- 1-2 tablespoons sugar
- lemon essential oil
Instructions
- In a small bowl combine jojoba oil, honey, and a few drops of lemon essential oil.
- Stir in sugar; mix until fully combined with honey.
- Apply to lips and gently rub to exfoliate. Leave on lips for a minute or two to help the jojoba oil moisturize.
- Use a wet washcloth to remove scrub.
After using the scrub I like to use a good lip balm to lock in the moisture from the jojoba oil. I recommend using the lip scrub twice a week, you’ll start to really see a difference the more you use it.

Hi Teri, sorry about that – it’s been updated! :)
This looks great! What size jars did you use? Do you have an affiliate link for those?
Where are these jars from? I love this, thank you!
Where did you get those Jars? I love them!
How long is safe to use the scrub?
Love a good homemade scrub and I bet the lemon smells amazing! These would make great gifts individually or a spa like set with the lemon soap bars too. I also suffer from dry flaky lips and this will be great to incorporate in to my beauty routine.
Sounds great and would make a perfect gift for my niece who is always pulling skin off her lips! How do you think other carrier oils (fractionated coconut or almond, for instance) would perform in lieu of the jojoba oil?
How long does this scrub stays good? whats the storage method?
This is so good thank you for sharing
