Create a spa gift basket with homemade grapefruit lip balm, sugar scrubs, and handmade soap for Mother’s Day.

Homemade Grapefruit Lip Balm Recipe Hey crafty friends! I’m officially back from SNAP conference. It took a few days to recover from all the craziness. I’ll have a recap on the conference up soon! Before I left I made several DIY beauty recipes to share with you and I have them scheduled out for the next week leading up to Mother’s Day. As you know I’m a big fan of making my own scrubs, bath soaks, and lip balms. This grapefruit lip balm recipe is one I made for my daughter but could also be given in a Mother’s Day spa gift basket.

Grapefruit Lip Balm RecipeAfter sharing the homemade shimmering lip gloss I made for my daughter I’ve been experimenting with new recipes. The lip gloss is great for a glossy look but I wanted something subtle that can help moisturize dry lips. This lip balm recipe makes about 4-6 containers. I found the clear containers in the jewelry making supplies at Michaels.

Lip-Balm-Recipe-TutorialSupplies:

– 1 tablespoon beeswax pellets
– 1 tablespoon shea butter
– 1 tablespoon coconut oil
– 1 tablespoon sweet almond oil
15 drops grapefruit essential oil
– edible shimmer dust

Grapefruit Lip Balm Printable Labels

I often receive emails on where to buy the supplies for the DIY beauty recipes I make. I’ve added Amazon links for convince for the items you can find online. Here’s where you can find everything I used for this recipe:

Pure White BEESWAX Pellets from Amazon
Shea Butter from Amazon
NOW Foods Sweet Almond Oil from Amazon
Now Foods Grapefruit Essential Oil from Amazon
Coconut Oil – Amazon, nutrition store, or local grocery store
Wilton Shimmer dust – from Michaels
Plastic Containers – from Michaels.

In a double boiler or microwavable dish melt beeswax, shea butter, coconut and almond oil. I prefer to use a large pyrex measuring cup for easy pouring. Once all ingredients have liquified stir in 15 drops of grapefruit essential oil. Then add about a 1/4 teaspoon of Wilton edible shimmer dust for color. This will give the lip balm a small amount of color and slight shimmer glow.

shimmer lip balm recipeI used a 1 1/5 inch circle punch to add labels to the lip balm containers. The labels are sized to fit the containers I found at Michaels. If you’re containers are smaller you can resize with Microsoft word or an editing program.

This lip balm smells incredible! Your entire kitchen will smell like grapefruit while making it. The lip balm will instantly moisturize and soften dry lips. It also has a long wear, keeping your lips nourished throughout the day.

The containers make great spa gifts that you can pair with homemade soap and sugar scrub with. For some of my favorite recipes try….

I love this idea! Grapefruit is one of my favorite scents so this would be perfect to keep by my desk. I love your cap labels too. Do the stickers come with the containers or do you make those another way?

This worked out soooo well and I absolutely love it! I am allergic to almonds, so replaced the almond oil with jojoba oil and it was great :)

I’m so happy to hear that you enjoy them! I get a lot of comments from readers saying they’re allergic to almond oil, I’ll let them know you had success with jojoba oil as a substitute. Thanks for stopping by! :)

Just a thought…you may want to look into Young Living Essential Oils. They are medical grade, 100% pure and organic. I believe that they are the only ones that can boast that they are 100% organic. I do not sell them so that is not the reason that I am sending this to you. I just did a bit of research, not extensive but found that Young Living was the purest that I could find in my research. There is a lot of their recipes and ideas on Pinterest, if you want to go take a look. Thanks for sharing your recipes with us, I am going to try the lemon soap and candle and the grapefruit lip balm using the Young Living Essential Oils. Thanks again

can you substitute other scented essential oils for the grapefruit? Like lemon, etc.? Wonderful post!

Crystal, I’m going to make this for spa day gift baskets for Christmas. Does the “pink” come from the shimmer dust? What color did you use?
