Hot Cocoa Christmas Mug Gift – create a hand lettered vinyl Christmas mug filled with hot cocoa and snowflake marshmallows. During the holiday season, I like to think of quick and easy gifts to make. We have several teachers, dance instructors, coaches and neighbors to think about and it can sometimes get a little overwhelming. One of my go-to gift ideas is to make hot cocoa mugs. A simple white mug can be dressed up with vinyl, ribbon and holiday treats in just minutes. Today I’m sharing this easy hot cocoa mug gift I made using my Cricut Explore Air 2.
Supplies:
Cricut Explore Air 2 <– great bundle deal!
Black Vinyl
Clear transfer tape
Coffee Mug (similar and comes in several color options)
1. to create this mug I selected a hand lettered design in the Cricut Design Space. The “Eat, Drink & be Merry” seemed appropriate for a mug filled with hot cocoa and treats. I also really liked the Merry & Bright design and plan to create another hot cocoa mug gift using it. Once I sized the design to fit my mug (about 2.5×4 inches), I set the machine to the vinyl setting and started cutting. Note: permanent/outdoor vinyl works best for coffee mugs to ensure it stays in place after washing.
2. Using the Cricut clear grid transfer tape, I removed the excess vinyl and applied the design to the mug. The mug I used had a flat front and rounded edges, so I pressed the design down the center and carefully smoothed it out towards the edges. This helped prevent air bubbles.
Hot cocoa mug gifts are my favorite gifts to make for the holidays. They’re easy and pretty inexpensive to fill. I used a packet of hot cocoa, snowflake marshmallows, candy and a peppermint cookie stick. You could also switch it for coffee or tea.
