Homemade gingerbread sugar scrub cubes – a great under $5 Christmas gift idea.

Gingerbread Sugar Scrub

My favorite type of gifts to give for Christmas and birthdays are sugar scrubs. They’re perfect for sharing a little spa-like treatment with a friend and also an inexpensive gift to mass produce. With Christmas only a few weeks away I thought I would share new sugar scrub recipes and other homemade spa gifts. Today I’m venturing past the traditional sugar scrub recipe with these adorable gingerbread sugar cubes. If you’re not familiar with sugar scrub cubes they’re basically an easier, more convenient sugar scrub alternative. Sugar scrub cubes make individual uses easier to grab-and-scrub without worrrying about getting water in your scrub, which would shorten it’s lifespan. Not only are these gingerbread sugar scrub cubes adorable they smell like a gingerbread cookie too!

Sugar scrubs make a great homemade remedy for removing dry skin, especially during the cold winter months. The brown sugar acts as an exfoliate while the almond oil replenishes and locks in moisture. If you’ve never tried a sugar scrub before you’ll be surprised by how soft your hands feel afterwards. This is a result of removing dry skin cells and the moisturizing properties in the almond oil. The best part about this sugar scrub recipe is that the majority of the ingredients can be found right in your kitchen. Two main ingredients you’ll need are almond oil and shea butter soap base.

GINGERBREAD SUGAR SCRUB CUBES

Supplies:

  • Sweet Almond Oil or Grapeseed Oil
  • Goat’s Milk Soap Base
  • Gingerbread Mold

  • Melt shea butter soap base over a double boiler. Add almond oil and stir until completely melted.
  • In a medium bowl combine brown sugar, ginger, cinnamon, allspice, and ground cloves. Play around with the spices to your liking. That’s the great thing about customizing scrubs, you can add or remove any scents you don’t have a preference for.
  • Once soap is melted remove from stove and stir in vanilla extract. Allow to cool for one minute.
  • Combine soap with sugar mixture. Use your hands to press mixture into mold. You’ll need to work quickly to avoid having the sugar harden. Once your mold is filled you can place it in the freezer for 15 minutes or allow to harden overnight. This recipe makes 15 gingerbread sugar scrub cubes.

My advice when trying a new sugar scrub, especially with spices, is to test a small area of skin first. Just to be safe and ensure you’re not allergic to any of the ingredients. :)

After the craft show is over on 12/13 I’m planning to make some personal gifts for people. (hopefully). This looks like something I’d love to use and be nice for women I care about. Thanks for sharing this. I have pinned it with rest of spa treatments I’ve found on blog land. Hope I have time to make some.
Happy weekend and enjoy season

Hi! I am new to pinterest and get very excited when I find something like this! I can’t wait to see if I can do it. My question is what do you put the gingerbread men to keep or give as a gift? do you wrap them in something or put them in a bag that can be closed? Thanks!

These we easy and adorable to make! They aren’t very soapy or sudsy – I’m new to making scrubs and soaps – does the shea butter soap tend to be less sudsy? Or did I do something wrong? They are fairly hard, but they look great!

Hi! So excited to make these this season! Could I use white sugar and crushed peppermints to make peppermint scrubs?

What a great gift idea. I am going to make these for this Christmas for my coworkers. How big were the gingerbread men molds you used? Were they about an inch and a half tall, or larger? I can’t tell from your picture and would like to be certain that I get a comparable size mold. Thank you for sharing.
