How to make Eggshell Candles. This easy DIY sprint craft is easy to make and is a great way to decorate your Easter table. Made with soy wax and lavender essential oil in real eggshells.Â
Eggshell Candles
Easter crafts are some of my favorite things to make! Springtime brings so much inspiration for Easter. While I enjoy Easter egg decorating with the kids, I also like finding new ways to decorate with real easter eggs.
While thinking about our Easter celebration I’ve been gathering ideas of what I’d like our tablescape to look like. So far I’ve gathered a moss table runner and plan to add bright flowers down the center. I also plan to make some of these lavender eggshell candles to display in ceramic eggcups.Â
Have you seen the eggshell candles you can buy in stores? I’ve always wanted to make my own at home. They seemed relatively easy and luckily they were. These candles are made with soy candle wax, dyed with food coloring, and scented with lavender essential oil.

How to make eggshell candles
Supplies (yields 5 eggshell candles)
- eggs
- small knife or spoon
- purple food coloring, water, and vinegar
- 1 cup soy wax flakes
- candle wicks + adhesive
- lavender essential oil
- Use a small knife or spoon to lightly tap the top of the egg. Gently peel off the broken eggshell, wash eggs thoroughly, dry upside down.
- Dye eggs by mixing 1 cup of water, 1 tbsp vinegar, and 3-5 drops of food coloring. Allow eggs to dry upside down.
- Place candle wicks in the center of the eggshell with an adhesive (I used glue dots).
- Melt soy candle wax in microwave or in a double boiler. Once the wax is completely melted stir in 2-4 drops of lavender essential oil.
- Use an egg carton to hold eggs in place. Carefully pour wax into the eggs, make sure wick is centered as much as possible. Allow 2-3 hours for the wax to harden. Trim wick to 1/4 inch.
