DIY Birthday Cake Bath Bomb – how to make birthday cake bath bombs with soap icing and sprinkles. These cool bath bombs make a fun birthday gift!
Birthday Cake Bath Bomb
After sharing my Donut Bath Bomb last week, I immediately started thinking of new ideas to share with you. I really like the idea of making food and dessert shaped bath bombs so I decided to create a little series. Over the next few weeks I’ll share several new bath bombs themed around desserts. Today I’m sharing these DIY Birthday Cake Bath Bombs made with a soap icing and sprinkles. These are great for birthdays, favorite things parties and spa themed birthday parties.
I’ve added Amazon affiliate links to the products I used below.

Here’s a quick video tutorial on how to make my bath bombs
Note: I doubled the recipe so that I could use two layers. If you decide to use one batch it should make about 2-3 bath bombs, depending on how thick you want the cake slice to be. Also, when using silicone molds you have to FIRMLY press the mixture together to ensure the bath bombs set correctly.
How to make birthday cake bath bombs
- Combine citric acid, baking soda, Epsom salt, cornstarch and pigment in a large bowl. You will need two separate batches – one for each color.
- Melt coconut oil in a small microwave safe dish; stir in essential oil. Pour oil over the dry mixture; stir until evenly combined. Again, make sure you melt coconut oil for each batch.
- Lightly spray witch hazel until the mixture is wet enough to hold its shape if you were to grab a handful (see video tutorial above).
- Firmly press bath bomb mixture into the cake pan. I was able to get 6 bath bombs. Allow the bath bombs to dry for at least a few hours (preferably overnight). Place a towel down and gently turn the pan over to release them. Carefully remove bath bombs one at a time, peeling back the silicone mold instead of trying to pull the bath bomb out.
- Melt goat’s milk soap in a microwave-safe bowl; stirring every 30 seconds. Allow the soap to cool for a few minutes then spoon a layer of soap over the cake bath bombs. Set aside and work on the rest. Repeat with a second coat and immediately add sprinkles. If your soap starts to harden pop it in the microwave for 10 seconds. Once the soap has set, should only take a few minutes, your bath bombs are ready!

DIY Birthday Cake Bath Bomb
Ingredients
- 1 cup baking soda
- ½ cup citric acid
- ½ cup corn starch
- 3 tbsp Epsom salt
- 3 tsp coconut oil melted
- Small spray bottle of Witch Hazel
- 15 drops of essential oil
- pink cosmetic grade pigment
- sprinkles
- 1/4 lb goat's milk soap base melted
Instructions
- In a large bowl combine baking soda, citric acid, cornstarch, epsom salt and pigment.
- Pour in melted coconut oil and essential oil. Mix until well combined.
- Lightly spray witch hazel a few times until you can gather the mix in your fist and it holds its shape. If it easily falls apart then you might need 1-3 more sprays of witch hazel. Avoid spraying too much or your mix will start fizzing. You only need enough to slightly dampen the mix.
- fFirmly press the mix into your cake mold and allow them to set for a few hours or overnight, before removing.
- Melt soap and spoon over the cake bath bombs twice. Immediately add sprinkles. Let soap set for 10 minutes.

Oh my! I really need to get over my fear and make them myself. I love them!!!
Have not tried making bath bombs yet but would like to try. I have a question. Do the sprinkles and star glitter cause a problem in the bath water?
I absolutely love this tutorial! I would love to make these bath bombs but I was wondering if there’s a substitute to witch hazel?
There is alcohol free witch hazel if that’s your concern but I suppose water should do it. Although according to my research witch hazel will help harden the bath bombs.
