DIY Mickey Bath Bombs

It’s no secret that we’re big Disney fans around here. If you follow us on Instagram you’ve probably seen a glimpse of our Disneyland adventures this summer. One of my favorite parts about visiting the parks is bringing home a little souvenir. Usually coffee mugs, someday I’ll share my collection, but often other kitchen goods like this Mickey cake mold. You can use it to make brownies, mini cakes, soap and even bath bombs! I recently used mine to make these Mickey Bath Bombs. The kids loved them and today I’m sharing how you can make your own!

  • 1 cup baking soda
  • ½ cup citric acid
  • ½ cup cornstarch
  • 3 tablespoons Epsom salt
  • ¾ teaspoon water
  • 2 teaspoon Almond oil
  • 1 tablespoon essential oil

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine baking soda, citric acid, cornstarch and Epsom salt.
  • Use a separate cup or small bowl to combine almond oil, water and essential oil.
  • Pour wet mixture into dry mixture; whisk together until fully combined.
  • Lightly spray witch hazel a couple times until mixture is wet enough to hold its shape (see video above).
  • Place a Mickey candy decoration in the center. Firmly press bath bomb mixture into the mold, only filling it up halfway.
  • Let bath bombs dry overnight before carefully removing from mold.

DIY Mickey Bath Bombs – how to make Mickey shaped bath bombs for kids infused with calming essential oils.

I have shared many bath bombs over the years and pretty much have my recipe down to a science, but I did run into a little trouble with these. After a few attempts here’s what I learned.

Bath bomb making tips

  • I used my old recipe with almond oil. I changed my recipe last year for those that have nut allergies. You can still use the coconut oil method but I found the almond oil batch worked best with this mold. You can find the coconut oil bath bomb recipe HERE.
  • Only fill the mold halfway! After two failed attempts I realized that the trick to getting them out of this sturdy silicone mold is to make them half the thickness and firmly pressing the mixture in. With silicone molds you really have to pack the mixture so that it will hold its shape.
  • If using the candy decorations, use a small brush to remove the bath bomb powder that may have made its way on top.
