Create a fun Easter egg hunt with glow in the dark eggs! Kids, teenagers, and adults will love this nighttime egg hunt. Today I’m sharing 3 ways on how to make glow in the dark eggs. This Easter craft idea is easy to make and great for reusing year after year.
Glow in the dark Easter eggs
My kids love glow in the dark crafts. In the past, we have shared a glow in the dark party, glowing mason jars, and our favorite glow in the dark slime. There’s something exciting about playing with glow in the dark crafts that my kids can’t get enough of. With Easter approaching, we wanted to share how to make glow in the dark Easter eggs using three easy methods that anyone can make.
Making your own glowing eggs is easy. The easiest and perhaps best suited for larger crowds is to use plastic eggs and glowsticks. Another way to make them is by decorating black painted eggs with adhesive glow in the dark vinyl. The vinyl applies like a sticker and can be cut in fun shapes with a cutting machine or craft punch. The puff paint method is best suited for older kids or younger kids with help from a parent.
Once you’ve selected which craft idea to make, scatter your backyard or inside the house with all the light offs with your glowing eggs. Kids will have a blast hunting for eggs in the dark!
Where to buy craft eggs
Most craft stores and major retailers sell cartons of craft eggs around Easter. My favorite to use is black chalkboard eggs. It provides a good surface for glow in the dark paint or adhesive vinyl, without having to paint the eggs. However, feel free to get creative with paint colors if desired.
I’ve added Amazon affiliate links below to help you find products used to make this project.

Dimensional glow paint eggs
- Use colored, black or white craft eggs to reuse year after year.
- Create designs using glow in the dark puff paint on eggs.
- Tip: use a thick layer of paint. Once dried, the design may be too transparent if the puff paint is thin. The thicker layer will make the eggs glow brighter.
- Set eggs on an egg carton or decorative egg holder to allow the paint to dry overnight.
- Optional: paint the opposite side if desired and repeat the drying process.
