In the last month I’ve opened up about wanting to find more time to focus on myself. I’ve been making little changes here and there like finding time to read and going running every night. The “me time” that I feel makes me a better mom. Recently I made an even bigger change, I gave myself a mini makeover!
While packing for New York in April I realized something, I didn’t have any nice clothes and accessories to wear. Over the years I’ve gotten rid of all my business attire from my working days and if you were to run into me at the store, 90% of the time you’d catch me wearing yoga pants. As a SAHM I don’t really have anything to get dressed up for. My husband works crazy work hours so we don’t get a chance to attend social outings very often. Until recently I hadn’t realized that I was donating all my “nice” clothes, handbags, jewelry that I didn’t have a use for.
I began my makeover with getting my hair highlighted a few weeks ago. It was the first time I’ve had my hair done since my wedding. Yes, I’m totally serious! Here is my before pic right before my hair appointment. I even wrote a little diary about it on Uncram.
Earlier this month I received an Emilie M. handbag and the first thing I thought was that the handbag was cute but maybe too cute for yoga pants and plain t-shirts. This is what inspired my makeover. Now if I had a closet full of clothes from my pinterest style board I wouldn’t have to worry about finding something nice to wear with my bag. ;)
So last week I went shopping with my best friend in search of some new shirts, jewelry, and shoes. It’s been 6 years since I’ve gone shopping with a friend..6 years! It was a much needed two hour break catching up with a good friend to help me update my wardrobe. I picked a few neutral colored shirts from Target and New York & Company I’ll have to tell you about my lack of colored/patterned clothing another time.
This really is a great everyday bag that I can see myself wearing out on a dinner date or to simply run errands with. The style is classic which will match the majority of my current outfits, yet still gives my
wardrobe a nice dressed up touch. This bag also has a lot of room with a centered zippered pocket and two large pockets on the outside.
What I like about Emilie M. is that they offer beautiful handbags at affordable prices. Their designer handbags are similar to the high cost designer bags but without the price tag. The Emilie M. handbag collection ranges between $50-80, well within my budget for handbags.
I’m excited to continue updating my wardrobe. Maybe even start a weekly What I Wore post. I’ll talk about my lack of color and patterns next time. :)

You look so cute!!! I have NO style what-so-ever… it’s sad… I can style my house, but not myself. I need an assistant! You did great however! ;)
Rachel, I think we could be best friends if we lived next to each other lol. I’m the same way, style just doesn’t come naturally to me. Thank you so much for the sweet comment! :)
You look fabulous! :)
Thanks my dear friend! :)
I love the new hair color! It looks beautiful!
Thank you so much Taryn! I’m always really nervous about writing personal posts so your comment means a lot. :)
You look so cute!!! And the new hair color is so fun and summery!!! I think it is always good to get out and pamper yourself every so often…moms deserve to look just as cute as our kids:-)
You look gorgeous! I love the pretty curls, and that handbag is beautiful! I think you look pretty stylin, my friend.
You look great and I really LOVE the handbag!!
You look great! I love the bag too!
LOVE it! Now I really want a bag! ;)) Great job!
That bag is adorable! I love the dual outer tones and that interior print. Great job stepping out of your comfort zone :)
What a great post! As a SAHM, I know that I am wearing shorts and tshirts only and it is a big dress up event if they are clean without stains from my three year old :) I think that all moms relate and don’t take enough time for themselves. A good reminder for all of us and you look great!!! I think that you should offer your services (especially to another color and pattern adverse mom like me).
I love it! I love all of it, especially how you’re feeling better about yourself!
You look great! I think lots of SAHM struggle with getting out of yoga pants :)
I’d love for you to link this post to my Finished Friday blog party.
It is hard as a SAHM to really focus on yourself. I live in a small town, so I have even less reason to ‘dress up’. It is about as laid back as you get around here! But, I know I feel much better about myself if I look halfway presentable. Maybe I need to go get myself some new things too! :)
Love the hair! And I think most of my waredrobe is from Target! Love the new look!
I am such a sucker for hand bags and purses.. I am yet again jealous about your bag! HA! You look great too.. Loving the highlights!!!!
How did I miss this one? Oh wait…I know…facebook (imagine it said in the hating voice). Love the makeover and love the bag!
Oh how fun! I totally need to do this too! Craziness! You look great. I’d love to have you link this up to Titus 2 Tuesday this week on Cornerstone Confessions. Hope to see you there!

you look great! I’ve been stuck in a rut with my fashion sense ever since my son was been born. I used to dress-up all the time but having an infant kinda defeats the purpose. He’s basically a crawling/almost walking ball of messiness lol.
Very cute! Love the new hair. :)
:D You look perfect!
